Re: HU Mount

Did you have to "modify" the heater vents to get the thing installed? I had to destroy mine, and I really wish I hadn't...

Re: HU Mount

I noticed that VERY little air was actually coming out the console vents so i did cut the vents out in the back. Then i just put a peice of duct tape over the hole to keep the hot air from coming out onto the back of the radio. IMHO this was a poor design by GM. All that was keeping the air from coming out from behind the radio area was a sponge glued to the vent ducts where they came together. Now the floor vents work better without all that air "lost" behind the radio. Plus it looks much cooler

Re: HU Mount

Thanks for buying that exact setup from HUmount, i put money in the paypal yesterday to buy a "camaro" "iroc-z" one but have only seen the TPI irocz one in this thread.

On getting power to the led, did you just grab a wire from the harness with 12v?

And what color is it when its not lit up? a off whiteish?

Re: HU Mount

Yes, make sure its the "power" lead not the ilumination lead like the instructions say... or it will only come on when your lights are on. Power lead makes it will burn when you turn your car on day or night.
Mine is Red so when the car is off its a deep dark red almost black. If i had to do again i might think about blue since the the radio is blue... but the red matches the Z28 emblem on the dash so....

Re: HU Mount

Great pics of the mount. I did not know about them. I like it and will get one when I am ready. It is a small but neat custom touch. It would be a perfect touch in my Bird after I get it running. Just something else on the wish list. At least this is relatively cheap.

Re: HU Mount

Yeah its definitely pretty, my interior is all stock (but extremely clean and in great shape, which makes the faceplate look even better)

The directions say to wire it up to come on with the lights, but with how strong the led is and the way its built i suppose, it glows perfectly fine in direct sunlight, so i wired it up to come on with the radio like camaro said

Re: HU Mount

I recently installed a humount with blue illumination and it turned out great. I also had to chop out the air ducts behind the factory radio. The problem is now I cannot put the factory trim panel back on. Any suggestions? Thanks. I'll post pictures when I get the trim back on.

Re: HU Mount

i had to chop the vents as well but i used h-vac ducting metal tape over the hole and made it so air could kinda flow still. dont really care if it does work but I had the tape so why not try. What problems did you have? does it bulge out? if so i just trimmed the back of the cover to fit properly

Re: HU Mount

It doesn't appear to stick out but it does because the trim plate will not go back on. I could trim it but I just assumed that since this is a factory mount replacement, that wouldn't be necessary. What tool did you use to trim? Dremmel? I'd prefer not to but if I have to, I will. Thanks

I had to trim mine. Took me 30 sec with a blade knife to trim the corners.
