using AUX plug on 90's chevy radio for mp3 input?
Hey guys, I recently got a radio out of a junked late 90's chevy lumina and I noticed that there is an AUX button on the face of the radio and an auxiliary plug on the back of it (I'm guessing for a remote tape deck or CD changer). Is it possible to rig up a standard headphone jack to that plug so I can plug in my ipod or something? Thanks!

Oooorrr maybe not. I checked my radio and there's a label on there saying it was manufactured in 1995, and the PIE website said that their units are not compatible with 1995-1999 AM/FM/CD radios. I wonder why it won't work. Any other alternatives perhaps?

Maybe you can try this
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacaaigm9.html
Only drawback is that you need the slave unit (CD player or cassette deck) hooked up and playing for it to work. I've got a slave cassette, but not the cable that goes to it.
It took me a long time in searching to decide on the GM9-AUX that I ended up with. Keep looking, you might find what you need.

I was going to tell you to just look into buying a new aftermarket stereo, but after looking at the pics of it installed in the dash I can see why you'd wanna stick with it it blends pretty well.

Yeah I like the factory look of the radio I got. And thanks for the link Al, but I'll keep looking for now... I'm not a fan of the requirement of the slave unit. But if worse comes to worst then I might buy a cheaper aftermarket radio that looks somewhat factory, since I've seen a couple of those. I just never really liked the "christmas tree" look that some aftermarket radios give off, especially in thirdgens. I hate to spoil the factory appearance.
