AHHHH! search overload "dual audio"
I promise I did try using the search feature but I was finding everything from dual voice coils to dual 12 enclosures. I just picked up a couple dual audio 6x9's for about $50 (the illuminite or whatever light up crap) and got them wired in to the gaping holes in my sail panels. it's nice to have 4 speakers finally. what I was curious about is what kind of quality they are and if anybody knows how long they should last un amped and not too loud.(at least i can still hear when I get out and there's no ear ringing, plus i can make out my cell phone ringing) not hooking up the lights though. WAY too much effort for something that will be hidden behind the sail panels

yeah i plan on upgrading in the future but i'm broke, have a 2nd kid on the way, and can't stand listening to music that only comes from in front of me. Not to mention the engine/drivetrain/wiring is gonna eat up my "spare cash" until i get that all worked out. new audio system is on the bottom of the list right now, well at least the realistic one

DONT Amp them they can not handle that much power. If you leave them on the headunit power they will be ok until you can get some better ones. They are decent for the price and will work but as i said dont amp them.

I've never bought dual speakers since a tweeter I bought from wal-mart literally blew up while I was driving. Filled the car with smoke and scared the crap out of me.

Ok let me put this in perspective, Duals are better than what you have stock in your car. They're cheap china built speakers, like a lot of other badged speakers. Don't crank them to distortion, and they should work out just fine for you for a good long while now. I have a few friends running the cheap "Dual" stuff, it seems to hold up and sound about on par with the Sony and other stuff Wally world sells.

Never used them in my cars, Pioneer. But my home component system is mostly Dual and I've never had any problem with any of that stuff, even with it cranked.

Re: AHHHH! search overload "dual audio"
dual never failed on me. had 6X9 duals for 3 years. 16th birthday till i sold them. had a head unit with a motorized flip down face. turned the car off when the face was down, turned it back on and the face wouldnt go back up (even when i put a cd in) so i forced it up, snapped the gears and that was the end of that. it still worked but you had to manually flip down the face. from what i hear that isnt only the duals, thats for a lot of the flipdown faced players. soo i stay away from them now.
