sony XPLOD

OK, my stock radio is im guessing broken. when i turn it on the speakers just make fuzz sound and the radio wont control anything and the desplay doesnt come up. So im planning on throwing in a cheaper radio because theres other things i need to spend my money on. So i was thinking the Sony Xplod series. i was looking at one for like 150 dollars. so my ?s are will i need a mount for it or will it fit in fine. does any one have one in there cars, how do they like it. And will it hook right in or will i need to modify any thing. im not conserned with keeping the stock look

Re: sony XPLOD

The sony xplod is a good set up. but I got a new in the box kenwood kdc-mp142 on ebay for 77 dollars with free shipping. I got it in 3-4 days. And I just got 2 new in the box kenwood 6x9's rated at 450w at 80 watts per speaker also on ebay for 53 dollars and free shipping also. I am close to the speaker guy so I will get them this tuesday the 16th.
so if you want here is the stereo guy on ebay: Millionbuy. they are in California He also has speakers. I used a guy that is a lot closer for the speakers.

And the speaker guy is: csb electronics. these guys are in Texas
I used csb electronics because they were closer and I wanted to go pick them up but they dont have local pick up. Funny I live 20 minutes from him,but oh well.
So all together I spent less than the 150 you want to pay.
So if you want that is were I would like to point you to get a good deal and for less than you want to spend.

Re: sony XPLOD

for 150 you could get a decent pioneer from walmart IIRC but yea the xplod radios aint to bad really if all you want is some tunes i got a pioneer in my firebird that i bought back in i think it was 98 or something like that, and it puts out better sound then some of the newer xplods and that....but thats just in my opinion

Re: sony XPLOD

Yeah sony Xplod is decent for the price. I almost got it,and i have the speakers but i have to agree with the other guys, pioneer is a better choice IMO. and its around the same price range, that's what I've always used(when i had a choice).. for your other questions, you can try it, it might be a pretty close fit, but IF it doesn't fit snug, just go to wal mart/bestbuy/circuit city, wherever, and you can buy a kit for like 10 bucks, that will make it fit easily. just look for the make of your car, and it will have like 82-92 or something like that. just find the one that has your year in the range and it will be fine. as far as wiring goes, you should be ok, if you cant wire it straight up, most of the stereos you buy come with an adapter that you just have to crimp to your stock wires, or if not ( i recommend best buy) you can also buy the adapter that will make it work. its not too hard just let them know what you need and they should be able to help you. make sure you use a fuse.

I have had pioneer kenwood and sony through the years. I would pick up a pioneer, i have had the best luck with them. You will need a mount wire harness and antenna adapter you can prob find on ebay for about 20 bucks for the install equipment.

Re: sony XPLOD

I am using a Kenwood headunit in my car and I really couldn't be happier. The display is bright and the buttons light up with bright red or blue led's. I have some Xplod 6x9's in my sails. They do their job, but I'm not overly thrilled. I had some Alpine 6x9's that were way more impressive. But that's beside the point.

For the money, I would rather have a pioneer or kenwood. The Dual units are pretty sick with the motorized faceplates, but I had one and one day it just decided to stop sending power to the left channel.
