HELP ME PICK AN AMP

I just bought a custom fitted camaro box for 2 12"s subs for my 92 camaro Z28

My brother gave me 2 12" subs...they are Rockford Fosgates...my brother bought them new in 2001 and paid about $350 a piece...back then they were really good I guess...He only used them for about a year so they are in really good condition still

The problem is...he doesnt know much about subs or amp...and neither do I...here are some specs for the subs

Specs from: http://www.tuningmania.com.br/autoso...ord_f/subs.htm

RFR-1812 12" Punch Power Woofer (for each sub)
  • Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohm
  • Power Handling: 600 Watts RMS
  • Peak Power: 1200 Watts
  • Sensitivity: 88dB
  • FS: 27 Hz
  • QTS: .44
  • VAS: 3.5 cu. ft. (99.4L)
  • XMAX: 0.24"
  • Voice Coil Diameter: 4"
  • Mounting Depth: 5 19/32" (142.1mm)
I dont know what haft that stuff means but I am sure someone here does...all I know is RMS watts and max watts...my brother had only a bazooka el 1500...and its obvious needs an upgrade

My question is What Watt power amp am I shooting for in RMS or MAX? or better yet...what amp...brand and model # would be the perfect match (or as close as possible) for those subs....also the size wire I would need depending on the amp you recommend

Also a question....how good are those subs (oldschool) rockford fosgate compared to the the new series like the P1,P2 or P3?? (in case I want to upgrade later)...

Re: HELP ME PICK AN AMP

An 8 ohm woofer is less "aggressive" than a 4 or 2 ohm sub. That doesnt necessarily mean it wont be as loud, but generally speaking the bass will be less boomy.(more accurate)

Most home theater speakers are 8 ohm, because in your home you can direct the speakers to your listening position, but not so in the car, thats why most car speakers are 4 and 2 ohm.

You should always look at RMS,Peak power is just the MOST power a speaker can take, like in a really deep bass note for example.

Speakers are more often blown by overpowering than underpowering, so make sure u always give ur speaks some extra room to breath.

600w RMS is a lot though....so you should be good with those subs,If u match em with a proper amp they will rock your socks off

yes...since your subs are 8 ohms they'd run at 4 ohms when wired in parallel.

Dont get brands like pyle, power acoustik,lanzar,audiopipe,sony,pyramid...I cant think of more right now....feel free to ask here before you buy.
