Re: help with fron speakers?

The front speakers tend to get messed up by the sun over time of where they are located. I have installed Jensen speakers in mine. No too pricey but pretty good overall quality. Besides, the speakers under the dash are not that hard to get to. Ultimately it all depends on your budget, what sound quality you want and how often you want to change them.

Re: help with fron speakers?

How creative do you feel? there aren't too many "good" 4x6 speakers out there, but it looks like with a bit of creativity and some tools, you can get some more common sizes (5 1/4", maybe 6 1/2") in there and open up a world of options.

Re: help with fron speakers?

A warning about those front speakers: depth is an issue. A serious issue. I forget the measurements, but my ultra slim Polk Audio speakers barely fit in there. Take measurements and buy slim ones or you'll regret it later.

Re: help with fron speakers?

i have a 92 camaro, i dont think i will have a problem fitting any speaker in really due to dept, i cut out the entire square in the dash where the speakers are because my duals were too tall, id say my budget is about $100 give or take some and for all 4 speakers id say $200

Re: help with fron speakers?

Honestly, there are no 4x6's that will sound good. They just aren't big enough. I would highly recommend either kickpanels or mounting 5.25" or 6.5" speakers in the dash. All you need are shallow depth (2" or less) speakers and then modify the stock speaker buckets to accept the bigger speakers.

Re: help with fron speakers?

I just recently went to Best Buy and looked through their open box items and found a set of pioneer 6x9's and pioneer 4x6's for under $125.00 for all four. Im using a Sony Xplode head unit wired directly to the pioneer speakers and the sound in my opinion is pretty darn good. A good set of 3 or 4way 4x6 speakers can have great range and little impact on your wallet.

Re: help with fron speakers?

If you want something cheap and easy I would try these in the front, very shallow:

If you want to try something that is more painful but worth it, try these components. Although I wouldn't do this unless you are going to us an external amp. I am using these currently and like them.

Re: help with fron speakers?

I have Sony Xplod 4x6's and at first they where just to replace the blown factory ones, but i actually like the sound of them so i decided to keep them. $40 at walmart!

I wouldn't recommend the Xplod 6x9's tho.. they have base, but sound like crap if you turn on the real bass boost. Start sounding like they are bout to implode.. no pun intended...

Re: help with fron speakers?

And here is the problem with audio in general. One man's opinion of a good sounding system is completely different than another. I ran 4x6 alpine plate speakers, 6x9 alpine, and alpine head unit, not a low end "traditional" setup. But i hated it. It would not play clear while loud. Some people might think that setup is great. So you know what, I giving those speakers away. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. What is the catch? I will not ship them. I hate shipping stuff. So if anyone lives in the Seattle area hit me up, you can have them for free.

So ckyfreak2010,

Can you be any more clear on what you are looking for? What kind of home or mobile audio systems have you heard and liked?

Re: help with fron speakers?

i just want speakers that i can actually turn up and have them be loud with out the popping noise due to the base, the duals are great until i turn the volume halfway up then they pop, i havnt really heard any great systems, i just wanted to see if anyone knew of or had speakers that could get loud and not pop, the duals in the back though r 6x9 and they are great, its just the front ones giving me the problem

Re: help with fron speakers?

There is the problem with 4x6 speakers they can't handle any bass. So you have a number of options. The best of which would be to install larger front speakers. If you don't want to do that level of custom work you can install bass blockers (capacitors) on the positive side of the speaker wire. Depending on what capacitance you get you will filter out lower frequencies to those speakers. A good start would be to try a 400 uF capacitor which will kill 100hz and below.

Check this out:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5wgx19k...-Blockers.html

Another possible cause of you problems could be the head unit clipping at high volumes. But since you said the 6x9 sound find, i doubt thats the case.

Our cars are hard to make sound good with a stock style setup. Loud car + small speakers = hard time on the audio system. I only way to really go is big speakers all around powered by external amplifiers. But of course everyone has a budget.

Re: help with fron speakers?

Would the Sony Xplod 4x6's have a depth issue with the stock speaker box? I am looking for a set of 4x6's that will fit in the stock box and sound decent for under $80 and these just might do the trick. I looked at the pioneer speakers at best buy and I think they were almost 6in deep and I dont know if that would fit or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: help with fron speakers?

I installed bass blockers in the front speakers and i ended up putting 5.25 alpines in the holes. i didn't do anything custom to mount them i just dropped them in and then put washers on 2 screws so i could get them to hold the speaker down. Then I use a 400 watt amp for my rear 6x9s and my 6x9s in my hatch. then i have 2 subs in the back on a different amp. I used alpine stuff all around besides my head unit is dual. I do plan to upgrade to clarion or kicker stuff soon. But i will say that with some decent 6x9s handling the lows and bass blockers up front you can get a good kick out of it. Without an amp you can get a little thump in your chest out of them but with an amp you open a whole new world.

Re: help with fron speakers?

Allright so I did some research and want your opions on this combo. Eclipse 4x6 2way speakers up front and 6x9 2way Alpine Speakers in the rear with a NOS pontiac cd player. I really just want a cheap setup that I can actually hear because now whenever the radio overcomes the exhaust it starts poping and sounds like crap. By the way this setup is only going to cost me $115 so do you guys think this is a good value?

Re: help with fron speakers?

well instead of doing a 4x6 speaker i would recommend doing a 4x6 plate speaker which has a 3 1/2 or a 4 inch with a seperate tweeter
