Amp help!!!!!
I have and older toshiba amp, and it has an "A" channel and a "B" channel, both have a left and right rca cable input. I also have a sony xplod cassete player (don't worry its hooked up to a 10 disc changer) with a one set of rca outputs. I have tried just doing the A channel, and i have tried just doing the B channel, and even both. And while switching channels I have tried to use all the different outputs for the speaker cable. But nothing seems to work. I am going crazy. If any one knows what i am doing wrong or has any advice please let me know.
thanks alot.
thanks alot.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
The amp is a Toshiba tp 873. The back of it has two "Channels" (or at least that's what it says) one is "A" and the other is "B". Both have hookups for an rca cable (so two lefts, and two rights). It is a 4 channel amp, two of them are on the "A" channel, and two on the "B" channel. I don't know how to wire it up. The head unit only has one output for the rca cables though. So I don't know what to do. And how do I see if the head unit is even putting power through the rca cables to begin with.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
Okay first of all. Do you have an aux power to the amp i am not talking about the main batt cable that i use 3 ga. its a small aux power that you usually run like if you have attena power line that makes the atenna go up and down. sounds like u don't have that connected. also for rca power coming out hmm that i don't know for sure off the top of my head its 1 am and lol not thinking to clearly. more info please.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
Take a portable cd player or mp3 player or somthing that you can hook up a set of mini jack(headfone plug) to rca plugs and connect it to the amp and see if you get sound. If not the amp maybe no good. Other than that just keep me updated as I am MECP certified installer and should be able to help you thru this.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
Well thanks alot firstroc, but out of messing around with the cords I some how managed to get it working. But now there is some thing else. I have some 6x9 speakers that have a rms of 100 watts, the amp is set to 4 channels, which says 85 watts. But when it comes to a loud part in the song the speakers just stop. If I turn it down the problem goes away. Any Help

Re: Amp help!!!!!
It sounds to me like the amp is over loaded, check to see if any indicator lights light up or if the power indicator light changes color when this happens. This can be caused by a few things, the voice coil in the speaker is gone meaning its ok when just a lil bit of power goes thru it but cant handle a lot, the impedence is too low for the amp to handle make sure you have only 1 4ohm speaker connected to each channel of the amp, and finally you may need to go get a new amp. Hope this helps.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
Well I took the speakers out of my last car about a month ago and they were sounding awesome when I took them out. Is there any way I can see if it is the speakers.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
If you have a digital multimeter set it to ohms(the horseshoe lookin symbol) and put each lead on the positive and negative of the speaker. If the speaker is good it should read between 3 and 5. Other than that there isnt a real acurate way to test if a speaker is good or not. Sorry there isnt much I can tell you here.

Re: Amp help!!!!!
I'm sure a lot of people are thinking this....throw the amp in the trash and get a good one.....your having way to much trouble out of it.
I tried to google a owners manual, it's so old there is nothing for it that I can find for it.
While your at it I would ditch the cd changer and radio as well.....you can buy a good cd player nowadays that has an input for a usb flash drive. That way you can convert all your cd's to fit on one of these and play your music directly from it.
I bought a Kenwood w/usb inputs for less than $100 shipped on eBay. And you can get a decent brand name 100-200 watt amplifier for $75 shipped that will be a whole lot better than what your fighting with at the moment.
