Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

Have any of you seen a sub box that sinks really deep into the trunk. I am running 2-12in 1000+ watt rms Fosgate subs with a box that is really deep and sealed tight. I think I might have the loudest/ most bumpin custom 3rd gen sub setup around. Each sub weighs almost 35lbs a piece, which I take out when I plan on drag racing.Any one want to prove me wrong, whatcha got? I am running a crappy dual 1000 watt amps for now. When I had a single large one, it caused me to go through 2 alternators and it almost broke my windshield (has a crack from running the subs real loud one day).

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

I had a 86 Fiero that had a competition SQL system that was overkill.

And this is my 92 RS with 2 10's and no wires showing.

I build custom stereo systems and I am currently rebuilding the amp rack to be more flashy and pull more attention at shows. I usually don't accept more than 2 jobs at a time so that I don't rush anything.

I like how clean your camaro setup is with the subs enclosed. My old single large amp extended the width of the trunk panel, I had the wires hidden underneath. I haven't bothered working on hiding the wires on that crappy sony explode amp.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

I just bought a fiberglass box that looks just like that. Its really deep and tight just like yours. Installing it tommorow if ti doesn't rain . Got two JL W6V2 with a 1000/1 mono amp running them.. should be loud. It was loud with my cheap 35 dollar ebay box so I would assume with better wiring and better box and some dynamat it gonna pound louder and cleaner.

crytical point hows ur right ear? have you gone deaf yet? Looks nice but can you even listen to music while driving?

1989irocz1 I doubt you cracked you window becuase it was too loud. And is your box fiberglass or just mdf?? and how hard is it too shoe horn that bad boy in to the well?? because mine takes about two people and lots of pounding just to get it into the well.

I will take some pics of my box for ya if I get it insatlled.

I had a rock chip in the window, that later developed into a large crack with the vibration of the subs. The last owner (my brother) had a guy do a custom design job on it. He used a high quality piece of wood (not sure) of a certain thickness and sealed all the cracks with an epoxy based sealer to make it air tight. It's not to hard to get in. with all the plastic panels removed it'll slide in with a lot of mallet tapping (be gentle). I didn't use a dynamat, I recommend using it tho. I have parts like the license plate and fenders padded up to reduced vibration. Nothing sound worse that subs that cause rattling on your car. I'd like to see what your's look like when its done.

This is from the owner that had the box before me. Same car I got a 89 he got 89. Mine is just not as dirty as his is
My amp wont be in the spare tire area also Because you never know when you gonna need your spare. It will be by my T-top case. Probably make a cover later on so nothing shows and my rear window is tinted and junk so its all hidden.

ts currently in the paint shop to match the exterior of my car. Its gonna house to jl audio w7. It dosnt sit low though but i think this is and advantage because ut will give me more air space. Disadvantage though im still thinking about where to relocate my t-top bag.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

I built one for my car a few months ago. I got the plans on this site. I'm only running one 10" MTX with a 10 year old 350 watt Kenwood amp. No one that hears/feels it can believe it's just one 10 with that small of an amp.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

my right ear is just fine.

The Fiero system had so much preasure it would force the windows to move just to relieve it. I moved the headunit out side so I could crank it because it started to damage my ears and make me sick and we closed the car up and the vibration broke the glue loose to the roof skin and would make a full coke can bounce about an inch. Now I have sold the Fiero and I moved the stereo to my camaro but I wanted to hide everything and even though you don't see it the subs are pointing towards the floor and are spaced to keep them from hitting. As for getting it in or out it is impossible with one person and difficult with two because you have to take out the hatch motor then take the rear plastic out at the exact same time as the box just to make it fit. When I went about building my stereo systems I want professional look and performance and hiding the speakers and making everything clean and everyone that builds there own stereo system knows how you tune it over and over again till its just right.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

My brother in law use to do custom installation back in the day and some guy with a camaro put in 6 12in subs and complained that the set up was messed up that it rattled and he wanted by bro in law to help him fix it. My brother in law had to explain to this chump that it was an over kill system and was rattling the bolts loose in the car...lol Sometimes to much is not good. And with a system like that not even dynamat could save him.

I wish they made the same kind of a stealth box for the 3rd gens that they make for the 4th gens. I have a JL audio stealth box in my 4th gen with a 10" sub, and it sounds amazing. Way better than one would expect out of a single 10". The sub boxes that drop into the trunk are great, but they take a bit too much room.

I think most of us older style camaro guys would go with the stealth boxes they make for the newer camaros but we can't
They take up so little room and I would think they sound pretty good for how compact and room saving they are. O well I'm single and don't got big family to buy groceries and junk neways lol what i need a trunk for or even the back seats unless the person wants to go deaf and be really really uncomfortable

Thats my problem now. I haven't tried using dynamat all around and junk but I doubt it will get rid of all the rattles in my rear. It is overkill but I don't really care its too late now. If i got my windows down you can't hear the rattles from outside all you hear is music and bass. sealed up.. well its not pretty but I've heard ALOT worse people that cars rattle from like a block away.

just to let you know its bad to mount amps to sub boxes because the vibrations from the subwoofer can cause the circut boards inside to crack or even shatter. My friend owns and operates a car stero shop and ive seen this happen many, many times. Just some heads up but nice looking setup tho...

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

I got bored and planned out my stereo sytem for about a month and played with a couple designs till I finally came up with one I liked the best. I am about to make a new box because the 10's have already destroyed the 3/4 plywood so now its time to bust out the fiberglass again and I might play around with a hidden 10 or 8 but who knows I might find something to suit you guys you like having all that space. Currently I am working on a cooling system for my amps because of the lack of air flow and the high demand i put on them but I am waiting on my 220amp alt before I mess with anything else.

If you just know the basics of geometry then building a box is easy and the sky is the limit.

220amp alt wtf you need that much amperage for? i doubt u need that huge of amp to power two 10s or two 8s... Just robbing yourself of ponies

I have two amp powering all 12 speakers and I plan to add another 6-10 more with another amp. As of now I have done all wire upgrades and the stock alt is not able to keep up and it dim's my lights. I plan to upgrade to HID headlights and a couple other things but mostly I want the 220alt is because at idle it creates 108 amps so it provides less stress on the battery and opens me up to alot more upgrades in the future and on top of that I do not believe in useing capacitors and HP is not a worry I already have a LO3. Plans for that are not limited to but are vortec heads, intake, performance TBI, and ebl, I already have a full exhaust system and little mods.

I wanna see this car with 12 speakers in it... Where the hell would you put them all? thats just insane to have that many speakers in a camaro... 4 is good enough for me and you wanna quadruple it. Get a self exciting 160amp alt and it should be fine.. but if ur gonna put MORE speakers and junk hey maybe you do need it. neways no more talk about this junk back to THE BEST CAMARO SUB BOX EVER!!!!!

It was 100% custom. You can fabricate one with some good measuring and cutting. You'll have to remove your spare.

I didn't have to remove my spare. I can get at it with ease. I also didn't mount my amps where most people do in the spare tire because you never know when you might need that spare.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

I remember there was a company building those well boxes for our third gens, I wish I had bought one when I found it, I always planned to pick one up but never did. I found it when I was looking for a stealth box that would go on the other side of my friends 1994 firebird, the same company that made the passenger side Stealth box for the 4th gens made one for the 3rd gens! I know for a fact I saw that enclosure, it was something like 119 bucks. I will try and find it again here soon but I've tried once before with no luck.

My first IASCA system had 14 speakers. 2 in the dash (tweeter and 4"), 3 in the door (tweeter & 5 1/4" component plus 6 1/2" midbass), 8" sub in the sail panel and 12" sub in the rear. three amp to run everything.

My second IASCA system had 10 speakers in the car. 2 in the kick panel (tweeter and 5 1/4" component), 2 in the door (6 1/2" mids) and 10"sub in the rear.Again had three amps. Car did VERY well.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

oh man I wish I could get those pictures off of my phone to put on here. My box goes from the top of the trunk latch (where the trunk meets that motor) all the way to the bottom of the trunk area. its form fitted so it was a tight squeeze to push in there but it takes up pretty much my entire trunk area. I've got 2 12' Power Acoustik Subs (1000w's each) with a 2000w pyle amp. it sounds amazing. I've also got another system that i bought from my dad. it was that Infinity set that you could buy from best buy. 2 12' 250w Inifinity subs with a 500w Inifinity Amp. and it hit very hard and had a very deep boom to it for being such low watts.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

6 speakers in my dash (two 5.25 and four tweeters)
6.5 and a concert tweeter in each sail panel
two 10's in the trunk well

total of 12 speakers though I have been thinking of swaping out the sail panel speakers with a set of 3-ways and add a couple other speakers to fill in the blanks.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

Ok I have an 84' Z28 I am new to this site I've been on Z28.com for a couple of weeks and everywhere I go I get great info except when it comes to this box question. I have 2 10" Pioneer subs, and 2 10" Xplod's, I only plan on using 2 in the Z but my question is with all of these different enclosures shown I am reminded of what a buddy of mine had in his 88' T/A. It was just a platform cut to fit in the well on the lip each side with holes cut out for the subs and a seperate amp rack above. My question is, is it ok to run that? I am only going to have a 600 watt amp running the subs I can build a full enclosure if needed but wouldn't a sub plate be sufficent if it is made to fit tightly? If it's just a flat board it'd be easier and lighter to r3move at the track and if it's a snug fit there shouldn't be too much sound loss, right? I know the quality of bass may not be as good but I just want some bass to help relieve my speakers. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

what is the best sub configuration for non back seat setup. i want the best spl without loosing my back seat. i know that its limited but i can tilt the subs to the rear a little or to the front. what i really wanted was the flat false floor look but i dont know what to do. im capable of building about any shape or design. i went to a stereo comp with my old fiero w/ 2 12" lanzar vibepros and a 1600w vibepro amp w/ cap i hit 137db. the reason why i tell you guys this is cuz while i was there this italian guy had a white trans am an he had 6 12" visonics (not sure the model but they had pretty big magnets) and he had various visonic amps. his 12"s were in a ported free-air wall behind the front seat and it was rediculously loud BUT when he closed the doors for the metering he only hit 139~.he had a bunch of friend hold down the hatch so the air wouldnt "burp" out he and others there said that was his problem.

sorry i got carried away but i thought it was a cool thing he had

Just goes to prove that you don't need a huge amp and subs to make some bass.

I used to run 4 12" Memphis M-Class wired @ 1ohm in a custom vented box, with a Memphis MC500D (500 watts @ 2 ohms) and hit a 146.2 db. It was in my 02 Frontier though. The subs were meant for the Memphis MC1100D which I never got. My car ADD kicked in and I traded the truck in a Chevy Colorado. Oh and before everyone starts going on about how close it was so close to the mic, i was beat by a Grand Am with 2 12"s with 600 watts.

And this is my 92 RS with 2 10's and no wires showing.

I build custom stereo systems and I am currently rebuilding the amp rack to be more flashy and pull more attention at shows. I usually don't accept more than 2 jobs at a time so that I don't rush anything.
if you think that fiero was over kill whats this? i have a better pis of the box but this site sucks some times and wont let me manage my attachments!

It has a feature where all you have to do is click in the image code after you upload it, and it will automatically copy the image source along with the <IMG> code......then paste it into your reply's or posts....and the pictures show up automatically and very large - like the picture in post # 43.

I don't fool with the image hosting on this site

Thanks mate, it didn't cost much since I built the box and I got the subs on sale I just used the plans from the sticky, then fibreglassed the top. It hits pretty hard, more than you can sit in the car and listen to if you crank it up. I can't see any use for more except db drag, and if I had better subs I'm sure I could go louder, but really, this is heaps

Re: Best Camaro Sub Box Ever

sorry i mean no disrespect but to be the best i think it should be a lil more complex like how with fiberglass you can make any curve or angle and you can make it built in or removeable and i bet that waighs a ton it looks nice though and i bet you feel the music awesom so again no offence but try some fibreglass sometime its amazing
and i agree with you ^ they have some ok more expensive stuff but sony can kiss some *** in a diffrent place get the hell out of the car audio game
