Xm in 3rd gen Convertible
Newbe here... Bought my first 3rd gen , just bought a 91 TA convertible , I changed out the old radio and put in a delco from a 4th gen. Plugged right up. Wanted the stock look.
Now i am going to use the 9 pin plug [unused] to my XM Radio. Bought a GM5-gm9 so i can hard wire the XM to the radio. All this was easy.
The hard part........ Were to put the XM antenna in a Convertible ?
Anybody ever done this?

Re: Xm in 3rd gen Convertible
my 91 has a cover over the dash (cause its just flat nasty lookin) so i cut out some of the cracked up nasty dash and my sirius ant gets perfect reception and on 95 plus cavaliers you have to pull the whole dash off to put a radio in and i just put the ants under the dash and they always got service so id try that and post back im a little curious. worst case scenario just stick it in the corner of the windshield on the dash, i know thats garunteed to work.

Done that with my daily driver, throw the antenna up on the dash, works great. And with a convertable reception will be that much better.

if you throw it up on the dash be sure to hide the wire.. but you could also put it back by the trunk on the outside..

Where did you find the GM5-GM9 interface cable? All the ones I can find say you need to have the slave (cassette or CD) intalled and turned on in order for satellite/aux to work.

Re: Xm in 3rd gen Convertible
I got the gm5-gm9 from installer.com. They didn't have it it stock, BUT found it from some other place. Told me that didn't make it anymore, but called somebody to get it. 3 days later it was here $75.
I have the new express RC XM radio. It's a 5 volt radio. then the 9 pin to go in the delco radio. My delco is a 01 monsoon and i think you have to have a 2000 or later delco with the 9 pin in the back for this to work.
Not All XM radios are the same volt, my roadeyll is 6 volt.
It sure makes for a clean install doing it this way.

Re: Xm in 3rd gen Convertible
From what I hear the current radios won't cross over to pick up the others, that's in the future. Haven't heard much about how they are going about setting up the technology or if they are doubling it up but I'm assuming the current satellites don't have the right programming/tuning to double up. Hell the Grateful Dead channel is still listed as "Sirius Disorder" lol
