Scosche wiring harness question GM01 or GM01B
Hello,
I am in the process of installing a new Clarion head unit into my Iroc but have come across an issue. I already have the mounting kit from Scosche and would like to get the wiring harness so that I do not chop up the original harness. I went to Walmart the other day and they had GM01 wiring harness in the back it said for 79-89 Camaro's but then I went to the Scosche website and noticed that the harness that is made for my car is a GM01B. My question is, Is there any difference between these 2 harnesses besided the constant yellow/orange harness for the clock?

Re: Scosche wiring harness question GM01 or GM01B
one has 3 plugs plugging into one block (12 pins) and then a connector for the seperate power (2 pin), 99% of 88 cars had this, that should be GM01, 89 is when they started using GM01B which is one solid connector of like 14-16 pins depending on power antenna and steering wheel controls on some cars. You really need to look at what you got. If you have a double stacked plug in the car...4 pins in one block, 6 in the other, then second row is 6 pins and then 4 pins, then you need GM01B, if you have 4 plugs, 3 four-pin connectors and one two pin connector, then you need GM01. Take a look at what the car is and take a pic, and someone can answer you immediately.

Re: Scosche wiring harness question GM01 or GM01B
I did the came exact install. I cant remember exactly, I know I amlost bought the wrong one, then realized it when I was reading the box at checkout. I went back and got the right one. Basically, if the EXACT year of your car and everything else makes sense, I guess get it.
Also, I used the Scosche kit for the Dash install. Trust me, this is a COMPLETE bitch to to. Took me a whole sleepless night, between putting together the mounting kit, splicing the harness, and trying to actually get it to work.
For the mounting kit, expect to be doing alot of tedious little cutting with a razor blade, and I think I had to use super glue in a few places. When it was all said and done, my HU works great, but still looks shitty because the scosche.
Hey I see you have a MC Z34. You over on mm.com?

Re: Scosche wiring harness question GM01 or GM01B
Actually,
I went back there yesterday and noticed that for the constant power which is I believe is an orange/yellow is there and it seemed like someone had used this kit before cause I took of the adapter and hooked it back up and the radio now has the clock on. It does have the orange/yellow wires but the Scosche harness I have has only the yellow one. I think I will reuse the old one that was on there already and rewire the rest of the harness to match the bigger harness plug.
Slow_90firebird,
I am actually on MonteCarloforum.com, I will look at mm.com today. Thanks for the suggestion.

I used an install kit off of crutchfield. Looks clean.

Sticks out a little, which I know annoys a lot of people, but it let's you mount something thats like, 7" long, so it's pretty good. Hard to get the console plate off without removing the faceplate of the stereo.

Re: Scosche wiring harness question GM01 or GM01B
Thats why I use the Metra mounting kits.. the Scosche is garbage. I managed to get my unit flush. I removed the ductwork to the vents on either side of the console and the metal bar that supported the factory unit. It is solid and securely mounted. Look at the picture I posted on the recent "Let's see your Ipod setup" thread
