Extended Warranty for new amp???

I just bought a Boston Acoustics GT-40 amp from e-bay, brand new '08 model and now they say I can get a 3 year warranty for $20 through a warranty company. Are amps prone to go bad, or is this just an attempt to get an easy $20? Personally, I am not a big ex. warranty fan, but the wife is. What are your opinions on this? Thanks again guys!!!!

Save your money. Most extended warranties are just money makers and not in your intrest.

Re: Extended Warranty for new amp???

when i worked in a stereo shop i always saw people comming in with blown amps, i recommend the warrenty depending on the cost of the amp, never pay more than 25% of the cost of the product for an extended warrenty

Re: Extended Warranty for new amp???

I paid $200 for the amp and they want $20 for the ex. warranty. Are amps sensitive, or are they pretty hearty? Thanks guys!

Re: Extended Warranty for new amp???

I would, I don't know where you live but here in Illinois we have 100Degree in the summer and 0 degree days in the winter and combine that with moisture. Cars are not an ideal location for electronics. Amps are meant to run in cars and they do have protection against the elements. It also depends on the type of warranty, what do they do for u? I got a thousand dollar laptop for under three hundred so paying two hundred for a warranty seemed like a horrible idea so i passed on it. now my laptop is broken and I have to go through the mfg, to get it fixed. and it is going to take months where if I had purchased the warranty it would have been a 5 bussiness day turn around. So i guess what I am saying is that 20 dollars is good insurance for 3 years of protection...oh and don't buy toshiba laptops.

I actually already have a Toshiba laptop, but it hasn't given me any trouble. Sorry about yours. Anyway, thanks for the advice on the amp. I have never had an amp before so I didn't know if they were sensitive or not. Anyway, thanks again!

I'm a firm believe in those extended warranties... It's just insurance...
My girlfriend, bought a new laptop... it blew up a day after the factory warranty, no extended warranty... now it's $120 to fix... Had she spent a few extra bucks when she got it, it would of been covered... for 4 years instead of 1...
