I am helping a friend install subs and amp into her SUV. These will be connected to the factory head unit. I have installed multiple amp/sub set ups before, but all have went to aftermarket decks.

Question I have is that, I will be installing a speaker level converter to install the RCA's to, BUT where does the REMOTE wire connect on a factory deck... Key on power source??

A little help from someone a little more knowledgable than me (really easy) would be greatly appriceiated.... THANKS!!

 

what kinda suv? chevy?, if so the wire is usaully a pale blue. the best way to find out what the wire is find a diagram or buy a harness and not use it but just plug it up to c what wire is the remote!

 

The vehicle is a F***. I understand that on most aftermarket decks the remote is ALWAYS a single blue wire, but connecting to a factory deck there is NO wire Labled "Remote". I have pulled a diagram for the vehicle and suspect that the amplifier remote wire would be connected to a "key ON" power source, but I am not sure and don't want to hack into everywire untill I get it connect right.

Just wondering for the installers out there... Where are you connecting the amplifier remote wire into a factory deck.

 

thats why i said to buy a wire harness and plug it into the factory harness and that will tell u what wire is the remote wire. what kinda pos is it? an escrap, exploder,expodition?

 

Its an explorer P.O.S!!! LOL! I found that my assumption is correct from an audiophile, board that I asked the same question.

The remote wire when being installed into a factory head unit will need to connected to a switched power source. The remote wire should also have a 5 amp inline fuse installed to prevent any possible shorts from entering the factory system (apparently not fused as well as most aftermarket decks).

Yeah. I would have also just completely ignored the factory stereo wiring harness and simply gone straight to the fuse box (panel). There are usually spare ignition (power only when the ignition is on) sources there that can be tapped into.
