Enclosed or Ported box?
I have two JL W1V2 12" subs in an enclosed box and they sound great. They kick *** when the deep bass hits but whenever a high bass note hits they don't sound all they great. It just sounds kinda crappy/annoying at the same time, it's hard to explain. But they only sound crappy on high bass notes when I'm playin 'em loud. So I was thinking maybe I should drill a few port holes in the box. Anyone have any experience with ported boxes in these cars? Forgot to mention, I don't want to lose the deep bass quality I have now but I have no idea what to do to get a good sound out of the high's.

Re: Enclosed or Ported box?
The JL Audio site itself has some great tutorials on boxes / sealed / ported...
All the info you need is there.... they each have advantages / disadvantages.
My personal preference is ported.
Sealed boxes do break up faster in the higher range than ported ones...

Re: Enclosed or Ported box?
you have to figure out the tuning of your box now.. and what you want your box tuned to... say 34hz.. then figure out how big your ports need to be.. im assuming your going with round ports (aero or pvc pipe) and not slot because you will have to have a bigger box for slot port

Re: Enclosed or Ported box?
the displacement for slot ports will take away from the cu. feet of your box.. make sure you keep that in mind.. so then youll know how to tune it

Thanks alot of the advice guys. I'll have to ask around some more and try to find some people that ported their enclosures.
