Re: OE replacement speaker boxes

I'm not sure what you are talking about, since both the T/A's I've worked on had the 4x6" subs that came w/Performance Sound package, and I haven't seen Camaro 6x9s. But, if they are like a speaker box, cover it with aluminum foil and fiberglass one layer over it, if you can. That makes the old box act as a mold, and the fiberglass won't stick to Al foil. Remove fiberglass, and do a layer on the inside (so you don't build outside thickness). Volia.

Re: OE replacement speaker boxes

I ended up recovering the OE 6X9 fiber material boxes that fit into the sail panel recesses of the Camaro. Turned out alright and they fit the speakers that are being installed. Had given some thought to using them as fiberglass molds, and that would probably be a nice replacement solution but, at the time didnt have enough kitty hair in the can for the job.

We pulled a set of plastic sail panel speaker boxes out of a Trans Am that I was intending to reuse but, as you've mentioned, they fit the 6X8's. Didnt want to cut them. That's why I was wondering what others have done with their old fiber material boxes.

Thanks for the input and reply.

Re: OE replacement speaker boxes

The part you are seeking no longer exist. It was used to deflect any moisture drips behind the panel onn T-top cars and also to dampen the sound waves from reverbing on the side of the car. If you remove the entire side plastic panel, you will notice that the 6x9 is on a seperare and removable steel plate. You could Dynamat the area directly behind the speaker and come up with a new shadowbox using MDF or underhood liner. Or you could get some baffles sold pre-fab for the speaker size.
