JVC head unit problems!

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with my JVC kd-s12 head unit. The issue is it will turn on for a few seconds once the power is to it, but then it will just turn off. I've tried resetting as per jvc's hotline instructions. IT has constant power to it even when it turns off, hitting the power button with it off and key on on position does nothing.

So it's getting juice and not functional.

It worked absolutly perfect in the vehicle it came out of.

Post up with any ideas you may have i need help. I'm taking this car on a road trip shortly and want a functional stereo. Thanks.

I was thinking about adding another ground wire, but wasn't sure if that would work.

Re: JVC head unit problems!

I had a JVC unit in my car for about a year. Then one day I hopped in and it wouldn't turn on. Well I unplugged the wiring, plugged back it. Then it was going on and off constantly. Tried everything under the sun to get it to work, never did. Then I bought a Alpine unit, works just fine. I've had it for a little over a year now.

Re: JVC head unit problems!

The only problem I've ever had with a JVC is that bad ground I mentioned. I prefer JVC, never had a mahor problem with them. I hate the Pioneer I have right now. And I hated my Alpine so much that I took it out of my truck and put it in my girlfriends moms trail jeep. She can deal with its crap...

Re: JVC head unit problems!

First, Check the the wiring to the HU. Grounds, B+, and ACC. Wiggle them, if that makes it cut out wiggle one at a time. Gently wiggle the harness and see if that makes it cut out. Wiggle the faceplate up and down. JVCs do have problems with dirty faceplate connection, bad solder connections, and if I'm thinking of the right model, bad ribbon cables to the faceplate. Any one of them could cause the problem you described. But so could a install/wiring related problem so check there before condemning the HU.
