Re: Radio Fuse

There aren't any weirdly shaped fuses, those are extra cavities for wiring accessories.

Re: Radio Fuse

You could, but a better idea would be to find out what's causing the fuse to blow before you find out how big a fuse it takes to set your car on fire.

Re: Radio Fuse

If you put a bigger fuse in there and there is a short it could arc and start a fire. definatly don't put a bigger fuse in to solve the problem. Pull the stereo out, check the wiring. look for any bad or broken wires. check the ground, the accessory wire, and the constant wire. that's most likely where the problem is.

Re: Radio Fuse

so you have a stock 92 stereo in your 88. that shouldn't be a problem...If I'm not mistaken, the radio harnes should have been the same. you should have been able to just plug it in. was the original harness chopped up in your 88? The ground wire from the stereo can be hooked to any ground in the car or anywhere on the chassis.

yes i do,the radio harness was not the same the ground is like a clamp on ground sort of thing, the original harness was chopped up but i got the right harness for that 92 radio, so any metal part of the car and it should not break the fuse again?

Re: Radio Fuse

No. I doubt that the bad ground is the cause of your problem. the radio shouldn't even be working without a ground. so it must be grounded somewhere. and not just any metal will do to create a ground. it has to be the chassis. You should still check the constant and accessory wiring. that is where your problem is. Make sure you've got everything hooked up properly. make sure that you've got the constant poer wire hooked to the constant on the radio harness and that the acc wire is hooked to the acc in the harness. Your problem is with a hot wire somewhere.

So its got to be a wire hooked up to the radio or a lack there of.

Re: Radio Fuse

Not so much a lack thereof. but definatly a wire in the harness. I'm gonna assume that you've got an exposed wire that is touching the chassis or another ground wire and closing the circuit...which is what is blowing the fuse.

When i took the harness off of the 92 in the junk yard there were extra wires on the harness that i didn't have, so i just left them "exposed" so its is definetly a possibility that they are touching something they shouldn't, but these are wires from the harness so that means there is current going into the radio then its going back out these wires that im not using and causing problems, the wire colors are pink yellow and brown if i recall. So i should just tape up the endsof these wires?

Re: Radio Fuse

you could give that a try and hope for the best. but I think you'd have less of a headach if you cut that 92 harness out of there and got an after market stereo. a lot easier to hook a new stereo up to a butchered harness.
