Bazooka tubes
Has anyone had good luck and some good sound out of a Bazooka Bass Tube in thier Camaros. Did not want to take the whole trunk space up with boxes and amps and I dont think it will be as noticeable for thieves as well.

Well a friend of mine was given one, a 10" tube. The guy told him it was cracking and sounded bad so he stuck it in the back of his 89 Camaro behind a Soundstream continuum amp just to blow it but... all in all for what it is, it didnt sound bad at all so now he's impressed with it and left it in. I can say it sounds better then a hatchback box but not as good one of the 2 12s or 2 10s that fit in the rear well area. But if your just looking for some nice bump without shaking off the rear view mirror go for it, i can hear him coming from about 1/4 mile away.

Unless they're significantly better than they were when I used to sell them, they suck.
For the same money you can buy an empty tube, stuff a decent 10" into it and buy a modest amplifier, and have vastly better quality.

Hmmm I have not heard anyone say they are bad so far but I dont know much about about Bazooka. In other cars I have used Infinity and Rockford and JBL.....maybe stuffing one of those in a tube may be better. Just for the prices I have seen a B Tube for seemed nice and most have a built in amp. I dont want to shake the car to pieces just a nice bass sound when I want it .

Don't worry, you definately won't shake your car apart with one of those. Unfortunately, the only thing worse than their output capability was the sound quality. They sounded terrible. They were one note wonders and really had no deep bass output, so no matter what you listened to, the bass always sounded the same. It was also thick and not at all articulate, so forget about distinguishing a bass guitar from a bass drum... it all sounded the same.
But... this was a few years back. Maybe they got better, though I doubt it.

Well maybe I should got to an audio place and listen to one and see how it is, at least get some idea of it even though it is not in the trunk. I wish I knew someone out here that had one so I can here it. I may just have to save some to spend more and get something nicer.

I just checked last night and its a b-tube with a pyle sub, just thought i should add that. It lays long ways at the bottom of the rear well so its really hard to see and i guess it helps being down there in a tight area b/c it sounds like crap out of the car. Hope it helps, if i could take a sound clip i would but no way of doing it.

I appreciate that, the sound clip thing but dont worry about it. I will think of something. I may just buy something different in time. If I do get a Bazooka the I will let you guys know how it sounds.

I had one with a built in amp. It was an 8 inch and had a harness you had to use for the remote switch. It wasnt the best sound but I liked it. It was real easy to remove when I needed the trunk space and even with the built in amp it was very sturdy. I remember I got water in it once while powered up and it still worked great when I dried it out. I never felt it was good enough for car shows or anything but when people got in my car they could tell I had some extra bass.

I had two in my '82 T/A and they sounded awesome. My friend that I bought the car from was pissed when I ditched the 2 12" MTX Road Thunders and used the two 10" Bazookas. Then I wanted it to be louder, and switched from a Punch 75 to a Power Acoustic amp (I forget how many watts). I blew the original subs and replaced them with some 10" MTX Thunder 3000s, and it sounded alot better.

I've never tried the Bazooka Tube in my car, but I have something similar. I installed a Kenwood bass cannon.
It came with a built in amp and a remote up front that allowed me to change the level, crossover frequency & phasing.
My circumstances might be a little different. Bass, in a convertible, is almost nill. Storage space is also at a premium. My goal was not a huge ground pounding stereo, but rather a decent system with decent sound for cruising around. And for that, it made a huge difference. I have not experienced any of the short-comings mentioned above, except of coarse, it will not compete against dedicated larger subs in custom enclosures. And it was not designed or expected to do that. But if your looking to supplement the bottom end, it does a great job.
As a bonus for me, with the vert, it fits perfectly in the trunk and even the finish and carpeting matches. Plus it only takes 2 seconds to remove (quick connect wiring) if I need the space.

Bass Cannon
I still hook up audio on the side when I am Towing cars for aliving but 2 me I think it is all on the prefence. Bass Cannons in Camaros and firebirds sound good if you don't everything to rattle, and you get pretty good bass from them wether or not they are built in with an amplifier. I have heard Bazooka when they were selling them here at circuit city, and they sound pretty good in that well. The only problem with them are is you really can't pund the hell out of them without having a lot of them to take up space. Go with your ears and well as your wallet. If you want something just to cruise then go with the cannon, but if you want something to hit harder than I would go with a couple of 12's. it's all up 2 you.

Well I went ahead and bought an 8 inch with a built in amp for a really good price. I installed it and turned on the system hoping I didnt make a bad investment. Am happy to say I am pleased with the results, a good clean hit and not much rattling....true it doesnt hit all the lows but just too have a nice extra bass sound to the Camaro, it was worth it. Installing was not too bad either. So I do recommend Bazooka tubes to anyone who wants to upgrade thier stereo a bit.

i had an 8" audiobahn with a 100watt rms built in amp. i loved it for the time being back there had just enough bass for me not too much not too little had the lows i was looking for and fit perfectly never moved. then i sold it and moved on to custom box and a 12" L5 just think about what you want. if in the future you think youll want more save your money for now. BTW i wouldnt change my single L5 for anything i love it its perfect.

The tube did not cost me much and for the price it was well worth it, it dies distunguish different bass sounds and it may not hit all the lows right but it is only an 8 inch.....for that matter it sounds good, even gets load enough will others here it hit too.....turn hte bass down on my deck ot thr tube and problem solved. Some may have had bad experience with the Bazooka but from what I have heard and dealt with maybe they have gotten better.

It drives me crazy when a system cannot hit all of the bass levels, when you have that low flutter or hard hits that sound like a hammer on plywood!! I think the 10'' if any would be the best investment. If you ever see that green or blue tubing (plastic 1/2'' thick/heavy) on the side of the road for underground piping, grab a piece! I made a bazzooka replica with the port on the top and everything but I used a Type R sub, sounds incredible. Nobody can beleive it is one 10'', even the Alpine rep in the area was shocked. I just wrapped it in black carpet to make it look pretty.

In my camaro i have a the tube but i have a jl eight in it with a 220 sony explode amp and it sounds like a 10 so i pretty happy with it but take the stock sub out and put a good sub in there.

I have a 10 tube in the back storage bay, buy a un amplified one, and get a auxillary amp. I think I'm running 350 watts to mine. I dont know how I ever listened to my stereo without it!! Well worth it

I will try a different configuration one day for the sound system, there are many other things I have to do first ( the car was pretty badly neglected when I purchased it in dec 05 ) but for now the sound system is pretty good all around with the tube. I will probably make or get a custom box and use a 10 or 12 with it. I already have 2 amps and a sub....just no box yet or amp kits. Would like to tint the windows too before I put the other system in, kind of keep it hidden. Hey but thanks for the great response on this post people, it has given me lots of ideas and input....Thanks.

I guess it is just listeners choice or what kind of bass you want out of your woofer......I personally do not like the sound the kicker gives...but just is just my opinion. I am working on another setup, have some other issues to deal with the Camaro first. I will be using an Infinity 12 inch with a custim fit boz in the future but fo now the Bazooka is very sufficient and clean hitting, which is what I prefer. But if Kicker works for you then that is great. Thanks.

I have a 8" one that looks like a Nitrous bottle... it was the only premade box I could fit in my MR2 till I had my custom boxes made. It actually sounded quite decent for the price.
I'll sell it cheap now
