Stereo Static
Specs: 1991 camaro RS 3.1l V6 w ith factory speakers and a generic aftermarket CD head unit.
Problem: When the car is in the accessory switch my stereo sounds perfect. After starting the car and letting it run for about 30sec my audio quality goes to crap. The sound the speakers make is similar to a blown speaker but I know they aren't blown because they are fine when the car is in accessory mode. I already pulled the headunit and rewired the harness and what not so everything there is fine.
Any help is appreciated!

The Head unit is some off-brand walmart P.O.S., thats the best i can tell you. There are no amps and the stereo is grounded by the main black wire on the harness. I've heard that the actual casing of the stereo has to be grounded too, is this true?

i had this same problem with my camaro. the only difference is, i have an amp running my speakers. these r the steps id take to eliminate any static, because obviously something is shorting out when the car is running. i dont know how in depth u want to get to fix this problem but i will list everything.
1. rfi eliminating plug wires.
2. power for headunit coming straight from battery.(reason being that sometimes the stock power line can b shorting somewhere along its path)
3. ground the headunit right to the chasis.(also make sure ur chasis is not picking up a current with voltmeter..another way to find something is shorting)
4. run wires straight from headunit to speakers, that way u know where is no shorts that could be possible from stock wires.
5. check to make sure engine is grounded properly
its a real pain in the ***, u can be glad u dont hav tons of money tied into this or u would really want to shoot urself in the foot.
