XPlode CDX-c7050x volume control problem

I've owned this deck for about 4 months now. I got it used from a friend. It has been working fine until the other day when I was setting the clock and the control **** stopped functioning. The deck still works, but I can't adjust the volume or any function that uses that **** (like the clock). I don't have a remote or that remote command stick thing that attaches to the steering column (which apparently came with this unit new). Anybody know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Also, how old is the CDX-c7050x?

Vary common. Most of the time it bad connections to the faceplate. you can use two things to clean it. But first UNPLUG it. The can cleaned the connection with a fiberglass pencil, they work the best. Or a pencil eraser. On the HU be VARY careful not to bend the contacts. Gently rub them. Same thing on the faceplate. Wipe them off and give that a try. If not there one more thing that you can try before look at a bad rotary encoder.
