Where to mount my amps...

I've got an 87 TA that I'm gathering the last few components together to install. I will be running 2 12" JL's through a Rockford Punch 75 25 To Life amp bridged, and a set of MB Quart components up front in the kick panels through an old Rockford Punch 200, all after the signal passes through a P-Gold EQ-215X. I wonder where everyone mounts their amps/EQ's in these cars, while still being able to use the Ttop bag. I want to recess the subs about an inch or so, allowing the tops to lay partially over them and not touch. I need to be able to use my back seat, so flipping the top bag up over the seat won't work for me. I don't want to have to hide my amps in the spare tire well. Has anyone got pics of them elsewhere? I am considering modding the right side trim in the back to have one/both amps in there, but otherwise I've got no clue where to try to put them.

Any help/pics would be appreciated.

So, are your amps sitting under the Ttops when they are in the back?

You are running 2 12's off of a 75 watt amp, and running a set of components off of a 200 watt amp?

That seems Bass Ackwards to me.

If your sub amp is only pushing 75 watts a channel, be careful.
I tried powering two 12s with an old Alpine MRV-F307, pushing 80 watts rms per channel (bridged). It ran for about three months, and once spring came, it must have overheated and died on me.
Since then, I've purchased an Apline MRP-M350, and its pushing 350 rms to both subs in parallel, and it sounds sweet. It is hard to tell what clipping is until you use an amp that doesn't clip.

For right now, yes, P75 on the 12's, P200 on the front stage, that is the plan. I have run these very Quarts in two previous vehicles as my front stage, and in my opinion, they like a lot of power. In the mid 90's, I had a '92 Firebird, and I had this P200 bridged on the same 2 JL 12's, and a P60 bridged to each channel for these same Quarts for the front stage. The bass was way overkill for what I wanted to do with it, although I'd put the same stuff in my '87 now if the P60's weren't already sold. My budget can't swing another amp right now, either.

I think the P75 bridged at 2 ohms on my 2 12's will do what I want. If not, I can swap a few wires and switch the amps around. No big deal, but I don't want to underpower my front stage, as I'm not all about bass. Shoot...case in point...in one of my other rides I've got a PGold Outlaw amp (M50 and M100 together in a fancy blue case), with the M50 half on set of Veritas Audio Waveguides under the dash, and the M100 half on 6.5" Veritas mid basses in the doors, all ran through Veritas Accumatches to bring it to a 2 ohm load...then only 1 little 4 ohm JL 12W6 ran by the bridged P200 I robbed out of it for the T/A (Anybody know where I can find a PGold Bandit to go with my Outlaw? I need it to run my sub in this vehicle! I'd find some cash if I could find this amp!). It sounds great to me! I don't need or want to rattle the windows of the Mustang that's behind me trying to keep up, I just want it to sound decent in my own car...to my own ears. I like to hear the highs in my music. I'm getting old, I guess.

Like I say, I'll try it with the P75 on the subs, but I won't be above swapping it around later if I need to.

Thanks!

Re: Where to mount my amps...

Old thread, but since it is titled aptly does anyone have pictures of thier amps in the spare tire well? Or the other side maybe in the keyed compartment area?

I'm going to do my stereo in a few weeks and I want it to be hidden as much as possible. I'm even going to do a sub box in the well...but make a removable cover that's carpeted as well to hide the subs.

Thanks!

Re: Where to mount my amps...

Im my friends T/A...He had a single backseat instead of a split

and he redid the backseat with MDF and mounted the amp directly into the back of the seat...

So if the seat was up....You didnt really see it...but if it was down you saw everything...and the wires ran outta the bottem of the fabric...

Just an idea...ive always wanted to do it..but i need a damn good amp that i know i will want to keep if im gonna butcher my seat lol

Re: Where to mount my amps...

I snuck a little alpine amp in there.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2629567/3
towards the bottom of the page.
I've switched to a 4 channel amp since then, but it didn't have issues with heat. I wouldn't put anything too hardcore in there without a few ventilation fans mounted to the vents.

Also, as it's related to the title of the thread, I've seen people mount the amps on the backs of the back seats before. But then somehow... They can still use them? anyone have pics of this?

Re: Where to mount my amps...

i found space to mount a pretty big "old skool" amp
under the driver's seat, cut out the carpet under and
made a mounting plate(found the build sheet under
there too) For the rear amps made an amp rack in the
spare tire area, later relocated my battery there and
relocated the rear amps to the locking storage box area
-took out the cardboard liner and there was lots of
room to make an amp rack there.

Re: Where to mount my amps...

...check out my vb garage. I have a pic of the setup in my car so far. Although my only problem is idk what to do with my t-tops yet. They become my back seat passengers for now...of course they go in there cozy bag.

edit: if your running subs...im assuming your going to actually power them...and those amps need air. Ive heard of ppl successfully putting amps behind the panels and in the lock box but your air circulation is bad in there. Unless your car is rusted out and you have holes in the body...but that brings up another set of problems. Once i feel like spending the money i will be putting a power cell in the lock box area as my amps are puttin alot of strain on my alternator. That would be a good place for another battery or a power cell. I personally wouldnt put an amp in there tho. thats just my 2 cents

Re: Where to mount my amps...

i put two 3 1/8" rotron fans to blow on the fins of my
sub amp in the lock box area, the lock box will get some
ventilation if the car is in motion or the A/C on with
the windows closed-air goes in the vents below the lid
and out the B pillar vents, for stationary use or with big
amps venting that area with a fan would be good.
my sub amp is only 200w-an old ppi from 1987-rocks
pretty good, but won't bounce a full beer can off the
roof like some setups i've seen LOL.

Re: Where to mount my amps...

haha ya the fan with help...most ppl dont want to go through the whole making a fan set up and all that. Its easier to tell someone to just not put the amp in there lol...and my car will knock a full water bottle over on the t-tops...it all depends on the song and if your on satilight radio or a cd...i want new subs cause the ones i have are 3 yrs old...still bump loud as **** tho...if i park the car outside and close up the garage...anything metal rattles in the garage...the electic panel door rattles like crazy...and the siding on the garage rattles too...its funny
