I would rate Focals in the upper echelon of car speakers. right up there with CDT, Rainbow, ScanSpeak, and DiamondAudio.

Coincidently my project on sunday is to fab up a set of smallish door pods to hold my Focal 130-ca's. Im thin king multiple pieces of 1/4 inch ply gradually decreasing in size from a 8 inch oval to teh speaker grill sized top piece, then sand or bondo to smooth. that is if my kids leave me alone long enough to do it....

Focal is definitely one of the best speaker manufacturers. They have different lines just like any other manufacturer. But, even their lowest line is as least as good as most others top-of-the-line. Many IASCA & USAC champions have used Focal speakers over the years. Their top line, Utopia, is derived from the Focal-Home series, Grande Utopia. The Grande Utopia home speakers retail from 20 to 50 thousand dollars a set. I personally use the K2 Power series. I wouldn't own anything else. It's impossible to make someone who hasn't heard them to understand what you are talking about. But, you don't know how good your "all-time-greatest-sounding" speakers really are until you have compared them to a set of Focal speakers.

A word to the wise, Focal speakers crave a lot of CLEAN power. I'm currently running 270 watts per channel <.05% THD 20Hz-20kHz & >105dB S/N ratio.

I've heard them before and from what I remember the first time they sounded really really good. but that was a long time ago. I've heard them not too long ago and it just seemed blah and as though it had gaps in the sound. that is part of why I am asking the question sinec the first time I heard them my memory of them could be a little fuzzy. but with the way you guys are talking it almost seems as though my memory from the first time is right just that the second time something wasn't right with the setup
