Audiobahn AW1200V 12" 700W RMS High Excursion DVC Sub

What do you guys think of them for $160 a pair? I have a memphis pr1000. to power them! I have already blown a set of the cheap audiobahns, a set of power acoustic fubr;s and a set of infinity 1200s. Will these subs last? Thanks guys!

Are you wanting high spl or inexpensive subs... If you can spend a little more money, you may want to consider some Memphis subs to go with that amp. A pr1000 will, over a period of time, destroy just about anything that audiobahn puts out. You can usually get some M3 subs fairly inexpensive.

Crap subs.

As for blowing subs, 90% of the time, it's not the subs fault. Even junk subs can withstand ridiculous power in most cases. It's distorted power, or improper installations that kill 90% of the subs out there.

You need to make sure that your box is built properly so that you have no air leaks or other issues. Once that's established, you need to make sure that you're not clipping that amp either by overdriving it, or excessive voltage drop at the amp.

Jim is right to an extent... Lots of subs get destroyed because of faulty installation or inadequate wiring. Some subs are blown simply by not allowing them to break in properly. All that being said, if you don't get subs that will handle the punishment that the pr1000 will dish out then you are going to rack up frequent driver miles to your local audio shop swapping subs.

I'd like to run 10s with a $200 budget too, but certain things just don't happen without more money.

You really don't have a lot of good SPL choices at that price range. SPL requires a well designed sub capable of high excursion, high power handling, and construction that's rugged enough to handle that. $200 doesn't get you that kind of quality construction. $200 might get you an entry level pair of SQL subs, but nothing in the SPL range that's going to really hold up.

You can buy a pair of entry level subs off ebay for around 200 dollars but don't think that they will take that amp with the gains up for very long. You can change your enclosure and run a single (good quality) twelve and probably have higher spl than you did with the two entry level subs. Everybody in the competitive world is reducing cone area and increasing power. (Except for Scott Owens of Team Pioneer... He still runs 13 subs... )

You can find a good Memphis M3 or an Alpine Type R... There are quite a few to choose from. In an f-body you won't 150 decibels with that setup but you will definitely have a formidable daily beater. Just for the heck of it, this afternoon I put a Memphis pr1000 on two kenwood excelon 13" subs and they played hard for about 50 seconds before the ominous smell of burning coils hit my nose. lol The subs are fine. I just wanted to test the power of the amp. They were playing around 143 decibels.

If you run a pair of type R's, they should last a long time. (provided you give them enough time to break in properly)
