Sub box design...kinda.

So I've been thinking of building a sub box which brings me to looking at a crap load of pictures of all the configs people have done and then being realistic with my own ability and just what I can accomplish. I was thinking of a variation of a popular design....

I was wondering first off if either of those would sound better then the regular old having the subs point up at the hatch, quite a few posts have said that your better to have them pointing back rather then into the car. Secondly would it be better to have them angled so that the sounds bounces off the back of the car and into the seating area? Also are there any programs I can use to design that and then figure out exactly how much air I would have inside and whatnot, I'm looking at either 2 or 3 10 inch subs since I listen to basically all heavy metal or rock or whatever you wanna call it. I was thinking of having it so the base of the box would also contribute to the air volume of the box. I think that's about it... ideas, suggestions? Plate on the top to make it kinda like a sealed trunk maybe?

I'm thinking of doing JL w3 v4's upto a w6, mounting depth is about the same, 6inches, 1/4 less for the w3's. W7's are 8 inch mount depth so I was thinking of having the top area maybe 10 inches deep so I'd be safe even if I did a w7, that'd give just shy of 5 inchs in front of the subs from the back of the car. The best subs I've heard are JL's which is why I'm set on having JL's in the firebird, I may be wrong though.

JL makes good stuff. That said, you should be able to find things that are on par/above the w3v2 for about half it's retail price online. The w6/w7 are very good subs.

As for the box, no comment. It's not how I would build one but to each his own. No special reason to it. Just make sure that you leave enough room to allow full excursion of the subs between the box and whatever trim piece you mount them next to. Don't want them running into a piece of plastic on hard bass hits.
