just bought polk DB 6 1/2 componernts, need help on amp choice
I need a little help in the amp dept. I just picked up the Polk DB series 6 1/2 component set and I am building kick panels for them and want a good amp to power them. These things handle 100 watts RMS. I also need an amp to power a 12" sub. I was kinda hoping that I could just buy one amp to power everything but I hear those "special" amps are exspensive. I am not looking to spend serious money on these but I also do not want cheap stuff either. How good are the kicker amps?

Kicker makes good amps, they are also very reliable, another company that makes some reliable and good priced amps is mtx, as long as you dont go with the cheap models.

Oh ya, it is generally better to get 1 amp for speaks and 1 for sub(s), this is because the sub amps are generally class d and are specially made with extra heat resistance/cooling capabilitites that class a/b amps just dont have

how well would the Kicker KX450.2 work for these? specs are
RMS Power Output: 150W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
Peak Power Output: 450W x 2 @ 2 Ohm
Birdged Output: 450W x 1
Frequency Response: 50-200Hz
Bass Boost: 18dB
Built-In Crossovers: HP - LP - Full Range
Ohm Load Stability: 2 Ohm
Low Level Input: Yes
Built in Cooling Fan: Yes
Bass Control ****: Yes
Dimensions: 19-5/16"W x 2-9/16"D x 9-15/16"D
the only doubt I have with this amp is the power out. I wonder if that rating is at 14 or 12 volts. If it is at 14 then the wattage should be a little lower with a car only putting out 12.5- 13 volts. so that would make the wattage closer to what is recommended by polk for the components.

That amp will be pushing your components really hard, in general most people dont like to give their components more than ~~80 watts. This is because the speakers start loosing their "pure" tone, and the tweeters can get shrill, etc., for that reason I would step it down to a kicker kx 350.2
110Wx2 @14.4 or lesser even to the 250.2 and you only give them 85 @14.4

well with the 350 pushing out 110watts at 14V, I should see somewhere around 90-100 with a voltage around 13 or so in my car. that sounds like a more livable wattage for my speakers then. Plus that amp is a litle cheaper. thanks for the tip.
