Will this blow the subs?
I just put this setup in my buddies camaro and he is scared to crank it up because he is afraid something will blow. It is possible to wreck the subs with this? We got a enclosed box with 2 12 inch SPL 1800 watt subs powered by a Sony Xplode 1000 watt amp and a pioneer headunit. It pounds pretty damn hard too. What do you think, easy to blow them or not really? Thanks again

xplode 1000 watt amp, if it's the same one we sell, is only 2 x 165watts rms

you need to get more info. that sony amp is only pushing like he said 165x2 I had it before. Check the RMS rating on your subs. Its always good to match them.

what he is saying is if you crank the volume and you are hearing the subs crackle and snap rather then nice solid clean bass then you are damaging the subs. That 1000watt xplode won't hurt the subs however if you do crank it up the amp might start throwing some pretty dirty power to the subs causing them to prematurely wear out.

shouldnt blow the subs... and i dont think that sony amp will hit 1000 watts either... check the amp rating on the fuse..... amps x volts = power in watts... that'll give you the max power it'll hit..... but like they said... just dont turn it up to loud to the point where it sounds distorted...

This is the perfect combo to blow subs, but it also requires a semi-retarded user in addition to the right equipment for that to happen.
When you take a low powered piece of crap amp like that sony, then expect miracles from it, you can overdrive it and cook your subs. Because it's hard to hear distortion at those low frequencies, by the time your subs actually start to sound bad, you're pumping MAJOR distortion into those subs, which is what will blow them up.
Basically, you need to listen carefully. Once you overdrive the amp, you'll hear that the subs start to sound fuzzy and unclean, and turning it up louder just makes it fuzzier instead of louder. The key is to keep it below that level.
Most people who blow subs do it because they just keep turning it up into that distorted region because they think they're making it louder.

I have found Sony amps have high distortion,
personnaly I would spend the same money on a higher quality amp with less power

What if you get distortion because your brain is shaking around and you can't see/think/hear right... even moreso if you turn up the volume?
What is that kind of distortion called? Am I clipping my brainwaves?
Mmmm, reminds me of that drug commercial with the eggs vs. brain... "This is your brain on drugs."
/why? -- you'll never find out

sorry, it's the bumpy-*** suspension of the car.... my brain can't take it anymore...
seriously though, if the windows are nearly all the way up, just enough to let air flow by your ears... it's really loud and you basically just hear distortion... but maybe it's just me...
I know it's not real distortion, because I can roll the windows down, or open the hatch at the same volume and it's just pure, delicious bass coming from the woofers.
