Pioneer DEH-p8600mp NO longer opens!!! NOOO

Luckily I have a 4-yr replacement plan that started in August, 2001 with my Jensen MP3510 mp3 cd unit... so I can get it fixed, or replaced, at Best Buy's discretion...

The way it works is with EVERY other brand, I get a new unit on the spot, or best buy credit...

Pioneer requires best buy to ATTEMPT to repair it, then I get a new unit if they cannot repair it.

I was going to send it in anyways, because the fuse for the RCAs blew, and I was getting noise on my amps (that I fixed by riggin a wire from the RCA to the headunit chassis. Now it looks like I have to send it in early...

It happened all-the-sudden... I put in a cd just yesterday, and when I tried to get it out today to put in a new one, it just didn't open... I tried holding the eject button, so that the unit would open without ejecting... still nothing, I got the beeping sound as if it recognized the button working... but no phyiscal movement.

My last test was to go into the settings and tell it to Auto-Open... even that didn't work.. I believe some internal connection is bad on the motor assembly.

Other than that, this unit is a g odsend.

Now on to more pressing matters... do you guys think that with the combination of bad RCA fuse, and the unit not opening at all, do you think they will NOT repair it and let me pick out a new unit? Or will they fix it? I guess I'd be happy either way...

I'm going to take it in for repair at a bestbuy in another town, because they have a TON of expensive decks there, like $500... some arsenal series and even some higher-end Pioneer stuff...

all the other best buys only go as high as the p80...

Watch this... I have such bad luck, that I GAURANTEE my headunit will be stolen over night... seeing how you cannot remove the faceplate without it lowering itself...

good thing I just have a burned cd in there, that I made yesterday, or I'd be kinda mad...

the worst part is yet to come though, 2 WEEKS of no 8600mp!!!

I'll have to rig up my old MPTrip portable mp3 cd player... (not to brag or anything, but it's the very FIRST one ever to exist... still works but it hates VBR files)

In all my years... I've never seen anything like this...

"Jun 13, 2005
5:57 A.M.

DALLAS, TX, US

AN INCORRECT ROUTING AT A UPS FACILITY CAUSED THIS DELAY;THE PACKAGE WAS MISSORTED AT THE HUB. IT HAS BEEN REROUTED TO THE CORRECT DESTINATION SITE"

To add to my good luck, I replaced my rotors and pads this weekend, and my car wildly pulls left or right when I brake... I think it's the "proportioning valve" if that exists?

So I have to wait at the shop all day, while they find a million problems with my car.

You'll love this, the faceplate problem is bad grease. The grease dries up and locks up the ***'y.
Why is UPS shipping it? Didn't you get it at Best Buy?

Wow... very interesting... this morning I tried it and now it works fine...

and the UPS is for a amplifier that I ordered... totally unrelated... (he was just trying to give me some more bad news!)

I'm still going to take it in, because I shouldn't have to deal with that... so you think it's the grease?

anyone have any thoughts on this new Alpine?

I have to kinda decide what headunit I want, if they decide it's not easily repairable... at that point they give me a comparable headunit...

I'd rather not get the 80mp especially if this is a nice headunit... I like how you can upload settings to this, so you don't have to worry about the battery dying... plus you can mute the internal amplifier, has a 5/7 band para/graphic EQ, 6ch time alignment (the auto TA sounds like crap on the pioneer, but I don't know if this alpine comes with a mic, or what)

any thoughts, or should I just wait it out and keep the pioneer?

btw, what happened to the awesome color screens that were out last year? the JVC SHX500, and the 8600mp, and that expensive sony widescreen tft thing... none of those are available anymore!!!

They’re have a lot of problems with the POS glide bar, you don’t even want me to get in to that. The new ones should be more reliable, on the shelve in a month of two, but you’ll still HATE it after the 8600. I’m waiting to see if next year they have a suitable replacement. If not I’m Ebaying it.
BTW, DON'T F' with the 8600, just sent it in.

weak... I went into best buy to have them look at my deck... and they said they would be more than happy to send it off to the repair center, and that it would take a few weeks.

I was looking around best buy and the best deck they had was the p80mp... friggin' weak!

when are we gonna see some good stuff come out? No wonder people salivate when they see my headunit...

luckily my motorized mechanism seems to be working okay for now, so I don't plan on taking it in until worst comes to worst...

Just remember to take it in before the warranty is up. And make mention of the new Pioneer grease for the faceplate drive.

is that internal fuse EASILY repairable? because I may send it in sometime soon to get them to grease it up (or replace the motor,) and replace that RCA fuse I had problems with before.

Also, I talked to the guy at Best Buy, and I can RE-Purchase the 4-yr plan for the same unit... so in a year when the mechanism completely goes out, or whatever... if there is a better model unit out, (not likely from what the stereo market looks like right now,) I can just swap it out.

Alas, these stereo problems are nothing compared to the fact that my family computer business was broken into last night... Some theives have been breaking into about 6 businesses in our area in the last 4 days. Last night my dad told me not to leave my Hifonics amplifier laying on the table, (because that's about all it's good for,) because there have been a few burgluries around here...

I told him I should wait with a shotgun for someone to break in, and we laughed...

until someone really broke in last night and stole a CUSTOMER's laptop!! He's some sort of attorney and was making a big deal out of preserving the data on his hard drive... I hope this doesn't turn sour real quick!

Is ironic the right word for this situation? Besides f'd up? I don't feel as bad as if my car was broken into, but I still want to murder... er "defend myself" against whoever stole my customer's stuff.

Sorry about the brake in.
And that fuse is a small SMT fuse (vary small), I would recommend not f'ing with it if you're not good with SMT soldering.

I see, but what I really meant, is do you think the "Best Buy Repair Center" is capable of repairing the SMT fuse? or will they label it defective and give me a credit?

if there is ANY chance they will just give me money/bb credit I don't want it, because my unit in it's current condition is still light-years ahead of the current line-up.

I wouldn't mind that touch-screen AVIC d1/n2

I love my 8600MP... but I don't like the fact that the face is motorized... more to break!

So your Best Buy carries $600 head units? Damn, I had to get my 8600 online, as nowhere around here had them (most had up to the 6600.)

the most expensive headunit bestbuy carries is that new 3" JVC single din dvd player... plays 8gig mp3 dvds...

unless you consider the motorized DVD screen systems...

I got my 8600 in January... and apparently a month later, they were discontinued...

can someone please tell me if there is a better headunit with more features for the same price or less? I can't seem to find one...

I don't think the p8/80mp has Auto EQ/TA, color screen, or a 13-band EQ... plus the crossover network is very limited...

the guy at best buy said that no one was willing to spend that much money on a headunit...

but apline has this POS for the same EXACT price as I paid for the 8600... weird...

it's hilarious, because Best buys "Mobile Entertainment" banner over the audio section has teh 9600mp all over it!

when I pointed that out, he laughed and told me I was SOL...

damn...

oh yeah, what ever happened to the Sony CDX-M9905X? that was pretty damned cool as well... and I would have gotten it, had it not been for the lack of removable face-plate...

I'm glad I got the 8600 though, but there's always that little doubt in the back of my mind...

They should fix it. Fuse is like $0.09 (we don't even charge for the part half the time), and the faceplate drive problem is just grease (more then likely), easy. And good luck finding a replacement at this point. I'm hoping they'll have one next year.....

that's why I am seriously considering renewing my 4-yr... I've had to use it 3 times already...

but the first 3 headunits weren't pioneer!

it sure is nice to stay with the latest and greatest technology...
