from PG to JL

Ive been thinking about switching my system when I buy a new car. Im prolly gonna get a linclon mark8 or something. Im thinking when I buy a system going all JL audio....Ive got 2 phoenix gold tantrum TX-10s with a 600.1 an alpine head unit pioneer 5 ways 6*9 and alpine 3inches or something. None of the stock location speakers are amped or EQd.

Im thinking about doing a 12w7 powered by either JL or like JBL or PG. I dont know what kinda speakers mark8s have but ill prolly lean towards JL...Also thinking about an EQ.

Do you guys think it will be a big upgrade going from PG to JL?

my friend runs one 12 jl audio w7. in a ported box. that sits in his extended cab s10. powered by one memphis 1100D amplifier(not quite as powerful as the jl audio 1000/1 though). at a compitition it rated 144.9 db on a term lab mic. crazyness! jl audio is pretty impressive. i do believe you will be very pleased with it. w7's are very power hungry though(in case you didnt know for some reason, now ya do! )

i have allways had PG. but those w7 hit really hard and want a lot of power. plus PG quality has gone down some what from what it once was.

W7s are nice, but in my opinion, way overpriced. There are other subs for half the price that sound as good or better, and will leave you a lot more money for your front component speakers, which will have the biggest impact on your sound quality anyway.

I agree about the w7's being overpriced, although they're nice. They are just way too expensive compared to what else is out there.

is PG any good anymore? that 1200.1 xenon amp looks tantalizing!

PG used to be the brand everyone had wet dreams about, but now nobody seems to have 'em anymore...

I don't think the octane series is that great, but they still make some good stuff. I used to have one of the old school pg amps. I also had an old carver amp which was the same company. This thing was awesome. I think it was 1/4 ohm stable or something to that effect. It was way ahead of it's time. Apparently someone needed it out of my car worse than I needed it in it. The thing is that's the only amp I've seen that looked like that and if I ever run across it I'll ring their bell.

i used to have the 1200.1 xenon running one kicker solo L5 15" wired for 2@load i all most blew part that thing a few time. but someone else decided to steal it out of my car. i would say it was a good amp.

I heard a lot of them were having problems at first... I really liked the thought of it having the same output at 1-4ohms... I always wondered if you could trick it to output more at 1ohm than the overall 1200watts.

ya I might actually keep a 600.1 PG amp for the w7. I am most likely gonna be getting a 10w7. 500 watts rms i think.
