Wiring up my iPod

I got an iPod mini for christmas and i was wondering what would be the best way to wire it up to my HU. The HU is a pioneer 4500MP. I dont want to use one of those FM tuners because they dont have good audio quality. What type of cable do I need to connect the iPod to the HU?

Im not talking about interfacing it, I just want it to be connected to the HU for audio output. And i think all I need is a y-split cable that has RCA-to-Mini outputs, then connect the RCA to back of headunit and mini to headphone jack in iPod. Is this correct?

the head unit has RAC inputs, then yea all you have to is splice the Ipod out puts to RCA using a mini-to-RCA converter. But I thought the the RCA jacks on head units were for connecting to the AMP to send the signal to the subs....

That HU DOESN'T have inputs in the back. You can get an adaptor from Pioneer to use the IP bus as in AUX in. Then there's the impedance thing. The headphone outputs on the IPod are designed to work with a 32 ohm headphone, not a 1K ohm line input. Could cause a problem with noise. It may not, but something to keep in mind. The FM mods aren't that bad, and a LOT easier. Cheaper to do it right that way to. I think the FM mods are cheaper then the Pioneer adaptor to.

Sorry the HU is actually the 4600MP, but that doesnt make a difference. I found the adapter I need and it would be a little more to go that direction over the FM modulator, only $10 or so. So do you think it would be better to just get an FM modulator because of the impedance problem, or should I go with the adapter to aux?

I'm not saying the impedance would be a problem, I don't know. It may be fine. Just want you to know it could be. If it was me, I wouldn't have gotten the IPod. (I know, not at all helpful am I ). Or, if the IPod was given to me, I would get a Alpine with the....I can't remember what they call it.
In your situation I would just go with the FM mod. But that's just me, you could end up with something that sounds better then mine.
I just like that my uncle can walk into my house and start listening to tunes, just tune in the radio. I like the flexibility you get with the FM mod.

I've got an iPod on my Premier 930. I used the IPBus (cd changer) to RCA box. Plug in the converter to bus, plug in stereo headphone to rca cable, plug in iPod.

Easy as pie.

Now, I would recommend you go out and get yourself a belkin car power adapter. Its got a lighter to provide power to the dock port on the ipod, and the sound also comes through the dock port and goes to the belkin adapter. Now on the bottom of the power adapter there is a headphone jack with adjustable line level.

If you need help search my name for ipod

won't hard wire in. You either have to get FM tuner or 04 Alpine deck and inter face like myself.

I have heard many good things about the new alpine models.

Now i dont have any personal experience except hearing my buddies system. He says it works great.

The more expensive unit is a passthrough, it allows you to be able to use the CD-Changer still.

I tried to get the cheap one since I dont need the extra ip bus connector, but they were all sold out. So if I get another ip bus device, all I have to do is plug it into the adapter.

Here is a pic of how its mounted.

RallySportin', there you go. Converter and no problem. I did some looking last night and the input impedance for the IPbus is like 22Kohm, the converter is like 1K (32 ohm output for the headphones). Sounds like 1K works fine though. I still like the flexability of the RF mod.
