Ordering dash speakers
I've decided it time to upgrade my stock dash speakers. I've narrowed it down to the following. Alpine Type-S, Infinity Reference or Audiobahn AS64PQ. Which of these would you recommend? I listen to mainly rap.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for bass, thats what my subs are for. I'm just looking for better highs. I'm thinking about going with Infinities all the way around since I already have Infinity subs.

I dont agree with the opinions on the Infinity reference series speakers. I currently have a pair of 6x9's and a 12'' infinity reference sub and they are good quality materials and construction. Ive had the 6x9's for a year now and they are in tip top shape and still sound beautiful.

Dash Speakers
This might b a little late but id go with plate speakers from Boston Acoustics. speaker number is 746 n u can get em at car tunes. for more info on em u can also go to BostonAcoustics.com n look at all their other speakers as well. Essentially the speaker has a 4" woofer and a 3/4" tweeter. you wont get much bass out of it (or ne other 4x6 speaker) bc of their size, but thats what yur 6x9s r for. They drop rite in. i put them in my 94 Grand AM n the sound is pretty dam good. great highs n mid range, n sound great powerd by tuner's amp (Alpine CDA - 9831) they go for about $130

on the other hand Saigon Bob is rite about the kick panel speakers instead. to me its based on prefernce, if yur serious about sound, go with the kick panels, but if yur jus lookin to up grade, go with the boston 746

A word of warning about the Alpine Type-S 4x6s. For my car (89 Formula), they wouldn't drop in like stock on the driver's side. The magnet was too big and the back of the instrument cluster prevented the speaker from going in all the way.

Anybody got a pic of a component speaker in kick panel?
Just wondering where exactly you are installing it -- the kick panels don't look like they would hold a very big speaker. What size does everyone use? Assume can't get a very big magnet? Do you put the tweets in the dash then (if they are component speakers)?

Nope, Alpine Type-S 4x6 speakers. Installing them in the stock location, in the dash.
The passenger side was okay, but I didn't see a way of them fitting on the driver's side without modifying the console.
I didn't try making them fit, since I only intended for them to hold me over until I could afford components. So I just went without until I got the components.

I've run Alpine 4-Ever, but I will have to say that the Infinity Refference are probably the cleanest sounding 4x6's I've heard in a long time. The highs are much cleaner than the other 2 you were looking at.... IMO

I had infiniti reference 4x6's; they sounded sweet; I miss 'em.
Then one day I was in a pissy mood and cranked the radio way up into distortion city; I had no crossover on the fronts back then, and the bass blew 'em out.

a lil word ive heard, you can get dash speakers to fit by usin a heat gun to heat up the platic box (which prevents intial drop in) n then once its heated up, use piece of wood to push down on the plastic. this is supposed to help with speaker placement. i personally wouldnt do this bc i dont like the idea of hackin stuff to get it to work. but if you really want them alpines, then you could try that out.

I'm really torn between Alpine and Infinity, I've listened to both brands and like how they both sound.
