Fried?

I have a Phoenix Digital PD-393 amp, it worked for a while, but I blew a fuse. I had it running two 400 watt max, 200 RMS MTX Thunder 4000's in stereo. I had an 8 guage power cable to the battery, and an 8-guage ground to the antenna mount on hte quarter. So i pulled the old fuse out, and when i put the new one in, it sparked, and i didnt want to ruin it, so i pulled out the power and put the fuse in. When i went to reconnect the power, the power sparked, so i pulled the fuse back out, and tried to reconnect the power then it sparked again and smoke plumed out the vents. I dont know how new it is, and i'm wondering if its entirely baked or if its something fixable. I blew out the power supply on an old Jensen, is that what happened here, or is this amp gone?

most amps to spark a bit when you complete their circuit...although smoke is never a good thing

you never know until you try it with music

a friend of mine hooked up his amp completely opposite...power was ground etc and it smoke a lot and fried the fuse. i replaced the fuse and fixed the wires and it worked fine after that

Okay, so i hooked it back up just now, and it works fine. So thats good.
But, there's still that fuse blowing thing... it ALWAYS seems to happen. It happened all the time with my Jensen 2-6 years ago, and it did it with my Boss last year and this one. Is something wrong with my wiring? the preouts are electral taped around the re-outs (old Pioneer DEH-455 or something.) I have the power cable on the battery with a metal loop end, and the remote turn on is twisted and capped, but near the amp its spliced into a black wire for some reason, and somewhere the power cable from the battery is spliced into a different one, but its still a solid line... any ideas?
