RE has there 6.5" midbass driver sets out finally!
Resonant Engineering has finally got there 6.5" components out. They've been out for awhile but I wanted to wait till I had some info to share on them.
Ok, there are 2 model lines the RE and the XXX. To start off there both 6.5" midbass, tweeters, and crossovers.
The RE is around $160 shipped from what I've heard (RE doesn't price things online). The RE models are around 80 RMS and have a 7 mm xmax on them. The RE model only has a 3/4" tweeter.
The XXX model using the xbl^2 motor just like the XXX subwoofers. They have a 1" tweeter and the midbass has 12 to 13 mm xmax on it. From what I've heard they cost around 400 bucks for the set. I don't know the RMS on them so if anyone has additional information please share it. The magnet on the XXX is a lot larger than the one on the RE also.
It's said that the XXX needs a sealed enclosure for the exact space so it's not a good choice for doors or kick panels (course looking at the magnet you probably couldn't fit it there anyways). The RE is suppose to be more for compact type places like kickpanels and etc.
Anyone got additional info on them? I'm kind of wondering about the RMS on the XXX's... knowing RE I wouldn't be to surprised if it was like 200 or 250 RMS.

The RE mid has XBL^2 also. The RE mid does not have the copper faraday ring sleves, the XXX does. The RE has a higher qts which is why it will work ok in typical IB (door) applications. The low qts of the XXX is why it absolutely needs a box. I believe the XXX is rated at 100 watts RMS. The XBL^2s benefit is primarily to provide a flat BL and a lower le. The le has a lot to do with the high frequency rolloff of a driver, so by minimizing that, you get a driver with a wider usable bandwidth. The flat BL results in sound quality that doesn't change as excursion goes up. The very high x-max, although another benefit of XBL^2, isn't necessarily the reason it was used with these drivers.
As far as I know, the RE and XXX use the same or very, very similar tweeters.

Thanks for the info, Jim! I'm was thinking of kicker SS56.2s... but XXX's might be a better way to go... when I get rich that is. Do you know the size of box the XXX comps require? Wonder if you could force them into a sail panel project and then build a fiberglass enclosure into the pocket to pull out that extra space if that would be enough.

I don't know if I've seen anybody from RE say what volume it needs, and since the t/s params aren't released yet, nobody has been able to calculate it. Even with a low qts (let's assume it's below .4), I have a feeling that the Vas of that driver may be kind of high, which will result in a large-ish box. Kick panels are probably going to be out of the question unless you don't mind hogging out the whole structure behind the kick and glassing an enclosure all the way out to the fender.
I'm sure that you'll have plenty of room to build a fiberglass enclosure into the sail panels, but I can't for the life of me understand why you'd spend that much money on rear speakers... especially when they won't match the fronts.

Yeah, I see your point. I was just more or less interested in a good set of mids to add a little more bass to my setup and a decent tweeter. My 18's are nice but I think I need a set of mids to even them out.

i just heard some Alumapro components tonight (we are looking at picking up the line).
and i was amazed at the sound of the driver, the bass/ midbass were amazing, at least compared to others in the price range.
