a little amp help
heres the deal...i had a pair of sony 760 watt amps. crap yes, cheap yes, they fit my budget. i am getting tired of my system so i thought id juice it. i have right around 200 to spend and i am really looking under 200. here are some of the choices i am looking at:
2 x Kicker DX350 350 watt amps
Kenwood KAC-7251 800 peak watts 230x2 at 2 ohms
Kenwood KAC-8101D 1000 watt class D mono with 400x1 at 4 ohms
MA Audio M1883i 800 watt amp with 800X1 at 2 ohms and 400X1 at 4 ohms
MA Audio M683i 400x2 watts rms at 2 ohms or 200x2 at 4 ohms
Kenwood 7201 800 watt 2ch amp 150x2 rms at 4 ohms or 230x2 rms at 2 ohms
my dilema is that i am not very knowledgeable in car stereo. i know how to tune and adjust an amp but i dont know how to tell one from another. please give me some insight. i have a pioneer 7400 mp3 player and two alpine type r 12s.

I don't have the slightest idea what you are doing with it.
don't expect anything great for under $200, but there are several products available which will get the job done.
what are those two sony 760 watt amps not doing for you right now?

well i have been constantly using the warranty on them because they keep going into the overcurrent state and never return. they shut off intermitenly and i just dont like them. i want to "upgrade" even though i realize that 200 is a pretty **** poor limit but that is all i have at the moment that i can spend as extra cash. i wont have any extra cash for a while and i was looking at those amps. they seem decent to me, in the rms area. i am not looking for competition just a decent setup that i wont have to worry about...breaking down.

I'll agree, Sonys = garbage, but it's all you've got and your trying to drive two subs?
$200 or less won't do much. without seeing your installation, I can't tell you if it's the amp alone. The amps did get fixed so something happen to them.
so, you are driving one sub with each amp? 4 ohms to 4 ohms? at least 8 awg to each amp, should be 4 awg, good grounds? I know this is simple stuff, but as always a foundation to a good system. I don't know how you like your bass or anything else, so I can't make any real judgements without being there.
you could reduce the gains and/or lower the crossover point to prevent the overheating that is occuring.
your best option is to continue saving money and sell both of those in the paper or in the classifieds for a little extra cash.

well i did sell them. the wiring is fine. it is 0 gauge and i had good grounds. the amps just sucked. i had taken them back at least three times for the same problem, overcurrent. i have been reading really hard into these kenwoods amps and i am starting to like the 8151D 1000w amp and the 7521 800watt amp. they look pretty good to me and they are in the price range. i was just looking for some help on choosing amps. thanks though.

sorry the wire is 4 ga no 0 ga. the more i am reading up on amps i think i am understanding. the one i am looking at right now, KAC-8151D 1000W Mono, says it is one ohm stable. if i wire my two dvc type rs in paralell i will get a 1 ohm load, right? then i can get more out of the amplifier. this seems like a good amp and i can get it for 150 bucks. it is a 1 ohm stable amp.
