Infinity Kappa 6x9 .. Bass??????
I just bought infinity kappa 6x9 loudspeakers and 4X6 kappa loudspeakers for the front...
im also waiting on the polk momo 4 channel amp which is 100X4
Problem is i just noticed a few posts regaurding 6x9's putting out no bass?????? because of the housing they are in?
i have 2 12's cerwin vegas (400 watt rms each) and im getting rid of them because with them and the box in the back seat my car is so weighed down and when i take turns u can feel the backend goin.... so i thought id spend alot of money and get the kappa 6X9 and amp them alot to hopefully get some bass!!
i know they wont sound like the subs but what kinda bass am i gotta get??
what can i do to get more bass out of the housing? people said fiberglassing and such? no clue how to or where to go for that stuff
thanks in advance!

I actually have the exact same speakers in my 89 formula 350, infinity kappa 2 way 4x6's in the dash, and two way kappa 6x9's in the pillars. Let me tell you between my kenwood cd player, those speakers and 4channel pioneer amp off the 4 channel preouts off the head unit, man this sound is amazing. With just 75 watts rms into each channel, it was fantastic. With the front speakers crossed over and receiving only the mids and highs, the back two running through the full range, and tweeter aimed towards the front of the car, the clarity was incredible, at all volume levels, and extremely loud when I cranked it. The bass was punchy with the previously mentioned setup, but was punchier when I left the front speakers also running full range, you felt a definite difference of bass from the front speakers, and the speakers have alot of punch/kick to them, making them great for someone that loves really loud music thats punchy and clear. I loved the way they sounded, and I'm sure you will too.

I had the kappa 4x6 plates and 6x9 three ways in the rear at one point. The highs were very good. There was little bass tho.

I installed Kappas into a friends corrolla a few months ago. His stock speakers made more bass then the kappas but they were much much clearer. They come with a crossover, maybe without it installed they make more bass *shrug* .
Have you checked to see if your shocks and / or springs are worn? Also check your sway bar bushings and end links. My box and subs weigh 80 pounds and my car handles amazingly.

Repeat after me: You will only get distortion out of 6x9s. 6x9s aren't any good for bass. Sure you will get some but it won't be very clear and it will distort when you give them a lot of power. I would put 8" subs in the rear 6x9 position if you want bass there and power them with the same amp you wanted to use with teh 6x9s.

6x9's make bass, just not alot, an actual woofer cannot be compared to a 6x9, there in two different ball parks. My 6x9 jensens in my daily driven 84 cavalier, makes as much bass as two eights in the trunk I tried it, and there more punchy with only 55 watts rms a pop. a good 6x9 will have some bass, but more just punchy tight sound, but there good speakers for all around use, and far better than a factory speaker with a whizzer cone for highs!!! Maybe with my setup It works better but my kappas have alot of punch, similar to a light "punch" in the chest in my firebird. I also have a whole cut in those factory box things(not sure of there name) and some poly fill in there very lightly to make the enclosure seem larger, and it helped eliminate any distortion, and gave it clearer bass response, with no muddiness whatsoever, good clean power also helps make the 6x9's sound better.

i was actually really happy with the bass my infinity 6 x 9's put out... put in a box, they'd sound even better but i usually have my subs off and a setting on my cd player that cuts alot of the bass out...
