need tunning help

a buddy of mine has a kicker L7 solobaric 12 and a jl 500.1 amp. ive listened to it and it just doesnt seem to sound as good as it should. i knwo all about hooking up and stuff, but not too knowledgeble on the tunning part. could someone let me know how i could tune this out right and possible some specs on a box that would bring out the true potential of this set up

Axle/Gears: 3.27
How big is the size of the enclosure. If it is too small it will raise the f3 (limit low bass) and make it sound like a PA speaker. Also check the Ohm load if the L7 is a DVC sub perhaps it is wired in series instead of parallel thus raiseing the load from 2ohm to 8 ohm making the system less effecient. Is the box ported, sealed or band pass?
