Problem fitting clarion EQ into dash

Am I doing something wrong here? I just got a clarion EQS560 and for the life of me I can't get it to fit below the head unit. I tried both the metra kit and I made an ABS panel. But either the EQ and the head unit won't fit in the kit (metra) or they won't fit in the trim ring that goes around the radio and HVAC controls(ABS). It looks like maybe the EQ is slightly bigger than 1/2 DIN. Has anybody gotten these to fit? If not, what's the best way to modify the dash to get it to fit? I was thinking of just cutting off the bottom of the trim ring, but I wasn't sure how that's look.

Thanks, Joe

With my alpine eq I had to notch the stock trim ring for the accessory panel on the bottom t it would fit. i was the only way I could get it in there.
