Car: 1989 White Trans-AM
Engine: 305 TPI hopefully Upgraded Soon.
Transmission: Crappy Needs Improvment.
question: why? just put a cd player in unless your going for that complete 4th gen interior thing with no aftermarket stuff like for instance... a cd player... i'm sure the wire colors arn't the same but if you play around with it, you'll figure it out i mean power is red, ground is black, memory is yellow so don't well you get the picture mix red and black makes things spark...

because i happen to have the cd player and speakers out of a 99
.by no means am i trying to update my whole interior to 4th gen..but i still have the stock delco in my 91 and wouldnt mind putting the newer stuff in..i just wanted to know if the mounting is the same and as far as the hookups go im sure i can figure those out

It might be a little bit of a tight squeeze, but other than that, and the re-wiring it will go right in....

it would work, however you will have to rewire it to work. if you have knowledge of that it should be no problem. that and you will need a code to unlock it probably..........with a slight modification to squeeze her in why not?
it's worth a shot. most stock decks are better sounding then many aftermarket units now days so i would try it.
also, 11SEC91Z i sent you an email.

I don't think any sound will go to the speakers due to not having the amps that go to all the speakers....in the monsoon system, every speaker has its own little amp, and i don't know if it will work without them.
i could be wrong, but its worth a try

i wouldn't waste the money and just buy some aftermarket stuff...it'll sound better. The monsoon's are ok production stuff, but aftermarket blows it away.

actually just plugging in a 4th gen radio isnt as simple as it seems, yes theres an external amp, and no its not with every speaker. I have a 2001 Camaro with the monsoon system....there is the main power amp located right in front of where the spare tire is mounted, its a black rectangular box, without it, im almost positive the system wont work correctly. Youd be amazed at how much bass and quality sound those i think 8 speakers (i've found 6 so far) put out. I re-did my entire system so i'm not using any of the stock wiring anymore, (main part of the system is still intact though so i can throw my stock HU in at any time) From an amp in the rear of the car, i ran new speaker wires to new JL speakers...and as far as this so-called theft lock....ive never ran into it with my car, i'd pull my radio out for days weeks and even months at a time, and when i put it back it, it would work fine, ive had batteries disconnected and all, never had an issue with it....But if you wanna do the monsoon system swap, i'd say u need that amp in the back.

the newer Delco radios are very good radios. Their sound quality is just as good as anything available from the aftermarket, and they don't look so stupid. If you're building a system on a budget, grabbing a newer Delco radio is a great idea. What makes or breaks an install with that deck is the quality of your line output converter. With a good one from www.davidnavone.com you'll get sound quality that's just as good as you'll get with an aftermarket deck.

the monsoon head unit has like 6 or 7 pins. How did you overcome this power issue? Did you have to purchase another pin connector/adaptor? How many wires are needed to supply power to the monsoon stereo? What pins are used on the monsoon? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had my doubts at first but now owning a fourth-gen with a newer Delco radio I can say that for a factory setup it sounds amazing. (Though mine needs replaced because it refuses to play CDs... ) I was wondering if you had any specific recommendations for line output converters. I had my eye on this one: http://www.davidnavone.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=N-7V . That would save me some money and also probably be a theft deterrent since it would look like just another factory radio... not that I've ever been one to do stealth installs.
My only problem with doing it this way is that I was going to get an aftermarket deck with inputs so that I could set up my in-car PC system. I'd rather not use an FM modulator if I don't have to... I would think I'd lose quality.

Re: 4th gen radio conversion to 3rd gen
I just bought a CD player from a 99' Grand Prix (non Monsoon) and intend to put in my 88' GTA. Will it fit? Do I need to order the harness for the 99' deck? And the antenna adapter as well? Will the steering wheel controls work? Sorry if this has been covered, but I read so much information and no solid answer regarding an 88' stereo.

That's great news eseibel67, thanks for the info. That steering wheel is kind of ugly anyway, now I have good reason to change it to the one without the radio controls. Thanks again

I would suggest the one-year only, 1987 GTA wheel. It's leather, it feels great, it's got the GTA logo with a little golden bird, and it's beautiful:
