JVC Deck problem

I have a JVC cd player, ill get the model number if ya need it, but the problem is, the remote wire doesnt put any power out, i tested it with a test light, so it wont turn on my equalizer or my amps. Is there anyway i can fix this or do i need to get a new deck, also i know all connections are good.

Thanks,

Kevin

You might be able to use the deck's power antenna wire to power the amps and eq.

Most newer decks have both an antenna and a remote wire.

Yeah, and as long as you don't mind having bass only when the radio is on, then the antenna wire would work fine.

Chances are, you popped the fet or diode or whatever transister device JVC chose to switch power to that wire. It can be repaired, but not by you. It'll probably cost $50-100 depending on whether you send it directly to National Radio, or bring it to a car audio shop which in turn will send it to National Radio. Either way, unless it's a Digifine JVC deck, I'd consider this a good opportunity to upgrade.

Not all decks power down the antenna when you play a CD. He'll have to see whether or not his deck leaves the antenna wire powered all the time or only in radio mode.

Just roll with the puches and put an external switch somewhere on the dash so you can turn on this stuff with it.

It's not a huge loss. Just make sure you run the lead off a switched fuse from the fuse block, that way everything will turn off with the key.

could also just run a wire from the ignition wire to the amp, dont really need the switch..

If it's got a separate Remote & antenna wire, then it will only come on with the radio. Some decks just use 1 wire, but I've never encountered a deck that had both wires, but both worked any time the deck was on. It's redundant and useless. Of course, that doesn't mean there's not a deck out there somewhere that doesn't do it...

Not if you turn the switch on after the radio comes on. If you turn the switch on before the radio, then it would produce the same effect.

Thats why I suggested he try it. I dont know what model deck he has or its specs. I've seen sony decks with both wires hot anytime the deck is on. I say try it and see. I'll take a min and not cost anything.

If it does only comes on with the radio, he could still use a relay, in addition to the power antenna wire and an accessory wire. Wire it to create a latching relay or buy one. Use the acc wire as you would the remote, but splice a relay in. When the radio comes on, the antenna wire will become hot, activating the relay. Since it'd be latching, the relay would remain on even when the power antenna wire isn't hot as long as the acc wire remains hot. The disadvantage to this method is that the radio must come on first, and if you shut the deck off but not the car, the relay will still be energized. For most people, this method would be transparent.

my JVC deck only has the power antenna wire, and that's what I used for the remote wire on my amp....it's on the entire time the headunit is turned on....

Run a wire to the componets like you would do with your current remote wire, but instead of splicing into the decks remote wire, tap the wire into an acc circuit wire and splice in a switch somewhere convenient. There is lots of different switches to crew from. If you want a switch that lights up, you will also have to run a ground wire to the switch.

Right. It only has 1 wire. When you only have one wire, regardless of what they call it, it's going to be on any time the deck is powered up.

If there's a deck out there (like the old sonys apparently) that has 2 wires that do the same thing, my guess is that they're both driven by the same circuit, so if one tanks the other one will too.
