Help me out. Pyramid super blue 300 watt speakers. Are they crap????

I bought a set of pyramid super blue speakers (4X6) at a liquidation sale. I hooked them up because my factory speakers were gone. But, the new ones sound like major sh*t. I am not running an amp on them, is this the reason? Or, do pyramid speakers just suck a$$. Someone help me out please. I am getting ready to just go out and get another set of speakers unless you guys give me hope for these ones.

they are probably underpowered, I want to say that Pyramids are cheap. they seem like they would be of the lower end audio stuff. I would go with speakers that are desighned for less power which ever brand you buy. something that can accept input down to 5 watts. I won't blame the brand, because I put polk Db series drivers in a car wich had an alpine head unit. it's a great head unit, but those speakers need 125 watts to really shine. I would not try to get an amp to power those speakers (wich are probably rated for MAX power anyways) instead, get speakers that better match the output capabilities of your HU and have a good responce like 110Db or something. my friend used infinity 4x6 in his truck, they were exellent speakers.

I.E. they're crap.

If you got them at a liquidation sale, they might just be blown or "seconds". Who knows.

Sorry... I hope you didn't pay much.

I KNOW!!!!!!! SELL THEM ON EBAY!!!!!!!

No, they were only 25 bucks, but d*m, I could have put that 25 towards a the new pair I am going to have to go out and buy now. I think I will just get some pioneer or sony's, unless I can find a decent priced pair of kenwood, jbl's or somethin.

They sound like sh*t because you bought Pyramid. Underpowering them has nothing to do with it. 10 watts from a head unit sounds exactly the same as 10 watts from an amplifier. The only difference is that more power allows you to go louder (well, at least with speakers that can actually take it).

So, what you are saying is "Pyramid = Sh*t????? My radio has 40 per channel, I figured it was just the speakers. I knew I should have never bought speakers I have never heard of.

Yep. You nailed it. Don't feel bad, I'll bet everyone here has bought some cheap-as s equipment at one time or another thinking... "It really can't be that bad..." And yet, it always is.

My first system was comprised of 4 12" urban audio subs (on a plate no less) powered by a Boss 400 watt amp. I had a Profile 400 watt amp for my no-name 4x6 dash speakers and no-name 8" midbass drivers.

So whenever you see me critizing junk... I'm speaking from experience.

SHIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!

MY first 'system' was a pair of Sparkomatic speakers hooked to a Sparkomatic cass. player. It wasn't TOO bad

UNTIL........

I learned my lesson after spending $40 for a "300 watt" 10 band EQ from JC Whitney.

It made pretty smoke though

BTW...... I'm not kidding about the smoke either

Pyramid sells mostly to the arcade industry actually... any of the younger ones on this board, if you play DDR, that's the brand of 12" subs they use...

Also in the driving games and such, the headrest speakers and the front speakers are 4x6" and 4" Pyramids, and there is actually a 6" sub under the seat... lol you'd never know

Of course this prob isn't true for all arcade machines, but for the ones I've repaired it is.
