Better Bass from 6x9's
I get really bad bass from my Infinity Kappa's and i think it is because it is basically a free-air set up in the sides of my car. The foam box things dont do the trick at all....has anyone put there 6x9's in a box? would it help much? I dont have enough money to get subs, and i'd rather spend that money on going faster.

Every Infinity midrange speaker I've heard doesn't have much low end. I've put 6x9's in a box before. The bass is louder, but it's annoying bass. Most 6x9's are designed for free-air operation. Just make sure the front of the speaker is as isolated as possible from the rear of the speaker so you don't get cancellation. Also make sure they're all running in phase (the correct phase).

What do you mean correct phases? Well, I used to have a piece of crap subaru, and i had crappy 6 1/2 pioneers in it, and the trunk must have made a good box or something, because i got really good bass, much better that my Kappa's, and new pioneers, so i dont know.....i'm all confused now....so its not worth putting them in boxes??

It's worth putting them in boxes if you have no place else to put them, or if your factory locations aren't very good. Of course it would be better just to get a sub. Trying to get real bass out of 6x9's is like trying to get real power out of a Honda . By correct phase I mean make sure the + is connected to the + and - to - on all of the speakers. If it's reversed it will severely degrade the bass response for a midrange speaker.

here is an example. i got a set of 6x9s in a 10in box, inverted. so I must run them 180 out of phases, meaning I hook them up backwards. That way when all the speaker hit and pus out, they hit but push backwards.
phase is so very very important, best way to tell a good radio shop, ask about phase and see if they get confused.
friend built his out phase box to adjust it all around, getting every speaker hitting at the same time and not fighting is important.
he has major watts and can make it so you hear nothing, why, speakers out of phase cancling each other out.
how they make them silent running cars, a set of speakers under the car, playthe excat same sound but 180 of out phase and you hear nothing.
