download songs on this car stereo??
A while back I was talking to a guy that was telling me about an auto stereo that you can download songs from your computer on it instead of having cd's. maybe I am back in the stone age and this stereo has been out a while I don't know but does anyone know anything about these stereos's??? what they are called, ballpark price tag for an avg guy, how many songs one can download on them??
I would think it to be the best way to go b/c then you would never have to buy cd's again or worry about them getting scratched b/c you wouldn't need them.

I heard of the same thing, from pioneer. I also heard it costs close to 2 grand! why not just burn mp3s with CD-Rs and play them on a $300 MP3 player in your car?? the CD-Rs will cost you less than a dollar a piece and if you burn them yourself so you can scratch one now and then and not worry too much about it. I was a slob with my CDs for a while, but now I'm keeping them in a nice CD book again. just make sure you are keeping a few in your car at a time, if your car gets stolen, your whole music collection goes with it!

And the point is... as I've said...
Lets say you have 134 songs on a CD-R and there are three new songs that just came out that you can't wait to burn and hear in your car.
With a CD-R, you'd burn three songs, then you're done. That disc has 3 songs, no more, no less. Or you can burn ANOTHER CD-R and put the other 134 plus the 3 songs on a new disc. Now you have the old one to collect dust.
With a CD-RW, you can ADD those 3 songs to the disc with 134 songs, so now you have 137 songs on the same money spent. With a CD-R, you just wasted the cost of one disc.
3 weeks later you decide that you've got way too many boring songs on the CD-R. You want to burn a different one that has some of the songs that are still on it, and you want to add new songs. So you do that. Now you have 2 CD-Rs that have some of the same songs on them. AND you used ANOTHER disc. Now you have two that are going to collect dust.
With a CD-RW, you can Copy the songs into a folder on your computer, then erase the disc, then put the selected songs AND the new songs onto it, and you still have only spent the money on one disc.
SO....... if you're taste changes rapidly (i.e. young people ), then a CD-RW will save you more money in the long run. AND you won't have 'dust collectors' laying around.
Catch my drift?

There are usually sales at Bestbuy or CompUSA with rebates so you can get decent quality 50 to 100 disc spools for free after the rebates. I just use the CDRs once, and if I dont like the song layout, then I throw it away and burn another disc .

Obviously I was missinformed.
I was told on a CD-R, that once you burn onto it (MP3 or whatever) it's done. Actually, I've tried it and it doesn't work for me. Maybe it's because I'm using XP, or I'm not doing something right.
And I don't know what kind of CD-Rs you're using, but the CD-RWs I have are 650MB, and the CD-Rs are 700. Granted that is 50 megs more, but I guess I like the versatility of the CD-RWs.
Comes down to personal prefference I guess.

I know the DVD-ROM is a Pioneer. I know that has nothing to do with it, but I have to say something I know.
