Memphis 1000D

Anyone running a Memphis 1000D? What did it cost ya? I am looking to get one to run my one Alpine Type-R and possibly another sub. I have heard good things and the dude that won the recent bass comp I went to was using 3 of them to run his 4 planet audio 12"s. He hit 153.7 dB. Tell me what ya'll think of Memphis and if it is a good choice or should I get something else?

definitely a good amp, but if you're looking for something a little cheaper check out the jbl 1200.1 - can be had for around $280, and puts out just under 1400 watts into a 1 or 2 ohm load.. great budget amp in my opinion.

the jbl is an awesome choice, never heard a single bad thing about em. and for under $300, thats a steal. check out www.ikesound.com for them. great place, great prices. that memphis is a good piece too. i was lookin into getting some of the memphis studio series amps, but ran outta money when i decided to get the camaro i got now. either way, you cant go wrong.

Dont like audiobahn myself, all of their products seem cheaply made to me, I had a Memphis CA3004 in my 94' for a while and it was a great amp, till someone stole it after the accident, i'll be running my new Boston Pro 10.5 off a 1000D when the stereo goes in.

Right now I'm stuck between the JBL 1200.1, the Audiobahn, and the Memphis. The only price I have is the JBL cuz Ike sound doesnt have the price for the Audiobahn and they don't sell Memphis....so....give me your feedback on which one I should choose...they'll all run my Alpine to the max I'm sure.

Got the price on the Audiobahn, its not the one I wanted, but its still almost as powerful as the JBL. Here are the specs on the JBL and Audiobahn.

Audiobahn:
300 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms mono
600 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms mono
1200 watts x 1 @ 1 ohm mono
PRICE: $359

JBL:
600W x 1 at 4 ohms
1200W x 1 at 2 ohms
PRICE: $285

Obviously the JBL would be the better choice. but if I come up with an extra $60, I want the Audiobahn cuz it looks bad *** and performs bad ***. And 82Z28_Camaro said it has a cleaner sound, so thats a bonus. Am I crazy for wanting it cuz it looks good, even if I'm paying almost $70 more for it?

you really should have 4-gauge to your amp, considering the wattage you're running. as for what other people have been saying about the amps, all three have less-than-audible distortion, so none is really going to be more "clean" than another, in the sense that you could actually hear a difference. then, you're left with price, quality and appearance to go by. the audiobahn definitely looks badass, but generally (as a brand--im not speaking about this particular amp) is more prone to things going wrong than the other two. of course all three are reputable brands, and have warranties and such on them, so pick what looks good and makes your pocketbook happy--i would go with (and did, actually) the jbl 1200.1, because its hands down the best value out there for a class d sub amp.

I guess I'll just have to see what my old amp and sub bring me, and go from there. I wish I could get the Audiobahn look on the JBL price.

after all the stereo stuff i've done, i've learned that if you are even THINKING about upgrading, run at least 4ga to begin with. but its a mute point at the moment. your best bet would be to run 4 ga. it sucks, but its a necessary evil. go to walmart and grab the 4ga kit they got there. $20 is a super deal for the power wire, and toss the crappy rca's. trust me, this is the only time you'll ever hear me advertise or suggest walmart

keep in mind that if you're running multiple amps you might actually want 2 gauge. i ended up running like 18 feet or something from battery to amp, and some chart (i forget which one) said you should have a maximum amperage of like 120 on 18 feet of 4 gauge. the maximum draw of the jbl amp is something like 117, so if you're running multiple amps you're gonna need to either (a) use 2 awg, or (b) run a separate power wire for your additional amp(s)

if you are even pondering adding another amp sometime later, do yourself a huge favor and just run 2 gauge now.. its not that much more expensive, and it will save you a headache later on when you decide to put that second (or third) amp in.
