I used to do that with an el kameleon! I took off the face to my 92 stock cassette player and just put it in front of the cd player! What I would like to know is how you made it so you could flush fit the cd player? When I tried that, I couldn't make it fit. How did you make it fit? I took out that metal piece for the stock radio in the back but it still hits back there!

There should be plenty of room in the Camaro. That kenwood deck is the deepest deck I've ever seen. When it was in my firebird, well, that was a different story. It was so tight in my firebird that I had to take a sledge to the trans tunnel, and I had to tie strings to all of the radio wiring, and pull on the strings to get the wiring out of the way. Sliding the radio into place took anywhere between 2 minutes and an hour in the firebird. But, in the Camaro there's plenty of room.

i did this to my deck too, but alas, i have no pics. major changes planned next time around. i would really like to get a stock cd radio face, line the aftermarket deck up behind it so the cd slots match, at remote mount the face, or even leave it off and use a remote. that way it's completely stock looking and you have a functioning deck. thats down the road a bit though.....

That's a good idea. I saw a firebird some years ago that impressed the hell out of me. He made a new trim ring that used the stock pontiac grid pattern, except that it didn't have a cut-out for the radio. It was flat all the way across and just had a slot for the cd to go in. The guy took the faceplate apart. He put the buttons over in the driver's door, and put the display behind 2-way glass in the rearview mirror. Very cool.

i have seen some pics of people putting the display in the rear view and custom controls, but thats way outta my league at the moment. the idea of trying to match voltages and extending massive amounts of wires freightens me right now... maybe when i get a bit more experience under my belt i'll try it. right now i just wanna get my piece o paper saying i know what i'm doing. 5 years of custom ameteur work i think is a decent amount of time for a chance at a job at circuit city, dont you? hehe.....
