You can definitely tell the difference listening to a 15 over say 2 12's or especially 2 10's... a lot of 15's can just hit those really deep bass notes you didn't know existed... the kind that you feel throughout the entire body of the car. Of course, all subs are different. But this has been my experience.
Of course, it really matters what kind of music you listen to. I listen to about everything except country, so.. But those kind of lows are more apparent in rap and some techno/trance.

When I bought my car off the previous owner, he had built a 15" sub enclosure, which i soon filled with a crappy Pyramid 15 incher that I bought for 55 dollars.
I've since upgraded subs, but there was a problem. The magnet on the new sub is much much much larger.. almost 3 times as big.
So I ripped the bottom of my old box off and thats what I've been using, but the sound is no better / no louder than my last sub.
I need to build a new box that will accomidate a 15" sub, and I was wondering if anyone had some plans made up that would help me out.
I am already aware that the surface of the box needs to be raised to fit the sub, thats how the old box was made.
Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
I've attatched a crappy picture, just for the hell of it. The mess of amps and wires infront of the box aren't there any more. I was just messing around.

Re: 15 inch subwoofer enclosure
hey.i have a 15 inch cerwin vega and im putting it in my 85 camaro z28. i would like to use the smallest box possible, as i need to have some space left in the hatch for 4l jugs of fluids, and sandbags in the winter. i either want to have it removable and have the bottom of the hatch useable, just lift the box and have access to everything, or have it just in the centre and have the humps on both sides accessible. can someone help me? building the box tomorrow regardless.

What model is the Cerwin Vega (should be on the bottom of the sub)? Ideal box size depends on Cerwin's recommendations.
Where in Ontario are you (centre of the universe)?

Re: 15 inch subwoofer enclosure
not sure. its currently sealed in a crappy box. just need a general idea, not looking for perfection. i do know its an old sub, so finding info on it would be really hard. it works fine as a mid, but as just bass it sounds like crap (major reverb).

Re: 15 inch subwoofer enclosure
Looking at the Cerwin Vega website they are suggesting 2 cu.ft. sealed (inside diameter) for their 15" subs.
I would start with that and if you're not satisfied with the sound, add 1 pound of fill.

Re: 15 inch subwoofer enclosure
Start with the dimensions in the link below and modify to get 2 cu.ft. This box fits pretty good and can be easily moddified.

Re: 15 inch subwoofer enclosure
I have been too lazy to build a box for my two 12's they are just shoved down in the hole in separate boxes, this makes me want to build an actual box. Good looking box. Also please don't build a box out of particle board use 3/4 mdf.
