Celsius Water Temp Sending Unit
I put an American Spec LS2 into a Canadian Spec 1986 IROC. My water temp gauge doesn't read correctly. I'm guessing I need a Canadian (Celsius) water temp sending unit. Can anyone help me? All the units down here are in Farenheit. Thank you.

Sending units are the same between Metric and Imperial, only the paint on the gauge is different. You need to use a sending unit from a thirdgen.

My celsius gauge is pegged out but the car is running at 180F. Any suggestions?

Re: Celsius Water Temp Sending Unit
I just talked to the shop that's doing the work on my car. He says he has a third gen sensor in the car now and it doesn't work right. Suggestions are welcomed! Thank you.

Re: Celsius Water Temp Sending Unit
If you are getting a full scale pegged reading, it means that your signal wire is providing a full ground to the meter. Your sender is a variable resistor that decreases in resistance as it heats up.
What does the gauge read with the signal wire disconnected from the sender? It should read zero. If it is still pegged full scale, then the signal wire is probably shorted to ground.
If it reads zero with the signal wire disconnected, then your sender is probably at fault.
One thing to note: on computer controlled cars, there are two temp sensors. One sends coolant temp info to the ECM only, and the other sends the signal to the gauge. They are separate. So make sure that you are not looking at the wrong sender.

There's a terminology difference... on computer controlled cars there's one sender for the gaugeand one sensor for the ECM.
