rear axle steel brake line

rear axle steel brake line
I have a 1984 trans am with rear disc brakes, and I damaged the nut on the passenger side rear brake line. It was difficult to remove the nut without rounding. Anyway, I ordered a replacement rear brake line kit from Ecklers. The replacement doesn't match. And Ecklers said this when I emailed them about it:
"Per our tech department, this part should fit your car. The part is for cars with disc brakes. "
What am I missing here? Will this brake line work?

The new lines look like the kind that goes directly to the caliper and the old lines look like the kind that have an extra rubber hose that goes to the caliper.

Maybe your rear has been swapped.
The lines they sent you looks correct for a Morain caliper rear.
Are your calipers Iron or Aluminum?
10 bolt or 9 bolt rear?
I get all my lines from Inline Tube, just got all new brake and fuel lines, they are a perfect match.

Re: rear axle steel brake line
I'll post pics of my 9 bolt line tonight, but the Driver side has that bend because it hooks straight to the caliper, the pass side has a rubber hose on the end.
We need to know what rear and what brakes the OP has.

The flexible rubber hose on the end of the old line is the T fitting where the brake line from the frame splits into the two axle lines. I just replaced the calipers with rebuilt factory style ones. The steel line on the driver side goes all the way to the caliper. The passenger side connects to another flexible hose (not shown in picture) that goes to the caliper.

So, your calipers are Cast Iron?
Is the rear a 10 bolt or a 9 bolt?
No 3rd gen came with 3.73 afaik.

Checked It Against The Factory Service Manual Looks Like They Will Fit,I Turned Your Pic Upside Down And They Match The Service Manual Pic,Looks Like They Just Replaced The Flexable Hose To The Caliper With Steel.

Re: rear axle steel brake line
Thanks Gt4373. I'll look again to see if running the hard line all the way to the caliper will work for the passenger side. It's that way on the driver side already. I'll have to get a different banjo fitting to connect the hard line directly to the caliper. I do know that the 84's come with hard line to caliper on drivers side and hard line to flexible line on passenger side. This was a good article on upgrading to braided hoses:
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...s/viewall.html
"The third-gen Camaro's left rear hose actually comes off the frame hardline and intersects the axle hardline, which runs right into the driver-side caliper."
"The right rear Camaro brake is set up a bit differently, as the hardline from the distribution block runs out along the axle, where it connects with a hose that connects to the front-mounted passenger-side caliper."

Re: rear axle steel brake line
I just ordered a new line from Classic industries. They have photos of the lines, so I know what I'm getting this time. The customer service rep at Ecklers is trying to resolve the problem. I think a tech their won't accept that they have the wrong design for an '84.

Where did you get this line from, and do you happen to know the part number? I think im having the same problem.
