rotor/caliper/pad suggestions?
Does anyone have any suggestions for a rotor/caliper/pad setup for the front of my 1992 3.1 RS? I keep warping these autozone rotors. I have replaced the entire brake setup multiple times (autozone warranty) and I am tired of replacing everything every couple months. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can order some good quality brake parts? Thanks in advance.

someplace other than autozone would be a good start, since those are probably cheap Chinese forged tinfoil rotors.
I usually use acdelco rotors on my street vehicles, i use a local auto chain, not sure where you are.
summit racing and jegs are a goo dplace to look as well.

I've never had problems with autozone parts. you get what you pay for. They offer "crackhead" "blue-collar" and "gold blue collar" I have no problems with "blue-collar" If you are warping rotors that fast maybe you have bigger issues elsewhere. Bad suspension? Not a mechanic by trade but just a thought........

Re: rotor/caliper/pad suggestions?
news flash...........everything is made in china.
check you rear brakes, they are out of adjustment.you will heat up the front rotors and warp them if the rears arent doing there job.
also break-in on new brake parts is critical.you have to burn in the pads.

i think i can saftly say that most 3rd gens out there dont have properly working rear brakes, if any at all.
yes, break in is key, without it, might as well just throw your money in the trash.

I have never heard of breaking in brakes. Google tells me to go 60mph then quickly bring the car down to 10-15mph then repeat about 10 times and the brakes should be good?

If your going with the stock style set up. I'd get ACdelco rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet pads. Those are my favorite pads anyway.
BTW, replacing the rubber hoses is a good idea, as they age swell internally which can mess with your calipers.

Re: rotor/caliper/pad suggestions?
I buy my replacement rotors from NAPA. But interestingly, I buy my pads at AutoZone, because AutoZone is the only local source I can find for Performance Friction pads.
PF brand pads cost more, but their stopping power is superior. I was using them for years. Then Car Craft magazine ran tests with them against other upgrades. They reported that switching to Performance Friction pads gave the same results as an upgrade to larger rotors and dual-piston calipers.
And ditto on the breaking in. About 10 hard stops immediately after installation will make the pads and rotors last longer and help eliminate warping. I do it from about 40 mph. 60 isn't necessary.

99% of o.e. quality replacement parts and most tires are ....... (autozone, carquest, advanced, action, etc.)
ac delco rotors are not any better than autozone.

You have to have really bad driving habits or something...... I have bought many autozone parts with Zero problems...... It sucks to buy from China but no one can say that their home is foreign free...... I do hear China makes a tasty lead paint malt..............

The good parts like EBC and Brembo OE last an entire season including commuting to work in between events.

I am trying the Napa reactive one rotors and adaptive one ceramic pads on my full size truck because of the same problem. The rotors have machined slots to keep them cool. So far they are working great!
