It's MUCH easier to swap the PBR rear disc setup (89-96 Camaro Firebird) to a drum rear end. The ZR2 setup has a drum type e-brake and such similar to the LS1 rear discs. I've swapped the PBR discs to a drum rear axle and its very easy, save yourself the headaches IMO.

I also didn't realize there were differences from the thirdgen to the LT1 stuff. I'm guessing a search will reveal this mystery to me. I put all '95 LT1 stuff on my '86 drum axle. The only thing I had to do was machine .100" off the backing blocks because I wasn't using the wheel spacer behind the brake rotor.
To the OP, I've road raced and auto-xed the setup and its been great. It's such an easy swap and a robust brake setup that it really isn't worth the hassle to do anything else unless you swap a complete LS1 rear into the car, and even then most guys do that for good gears and a posi because the LS1 rear brakes aren't really any better or worse than the LT1 or late thirdgen rear discs.

ive never messed with upgrading brakes before(as every other camaro ive owned had 4 wheel disc) so im not sure i understand exactly what you are saying i should do? if your saying to find a thirdgen disc rear then do you have any ideas on where to find one? having a parking brake is not a must if thats the only reason i couldnt use what i alread have(zr2 rear discs)

I'm telling you that the Zr2 discs are a waste of time and not worth it. Swap on the PBR 89-97 style instead.
Do a search and you'll find what you need, this has been covered numerous times. In fact, there is a recent thread by EBmiller88 that shows pictures of how to do the swap with his brackets that he sells. Or you can find where others have posted pictures of how they did the swap.
