Transmission: upgraded T5
Axle/Gears: 3.42
air cooling ducts for brakes? need help!!!
I'm wanting to put some kind of air cooling duct for my front brakes on my 89 camaro. i'm really not sure where to even start. any suggestions?

it does still have the stock brakes, but the build up alot of heat. i'm just wanting for them to run a little cooler. its mostly a weekend car, but i occasionally drive it to work. i usually go out and have a little fun. i live out in the country and drive a lot back roads. quite a few hills out here. i'd rather not have to upgrade to aftermarket brakes and certainly dont have the money for the 1le brakes. i just want to make the most of what i have.

To properly cool of the brakes like Ferrari's and so on do you will have to do ALOT of modification and fabrication. Honestly man for a DD car even if your going up and down hills alot and dont want to spend BIG money just upgrade to some nice ceramic pads and cross drilled and slotted rotors. I have that now as my car is just a DD car and it stops pretty well. Not as good as my 06 1500 slt, but it does stop well.

It isn't too terribly hard to run ducts from under the front, but you hafta cut the backing plates (or make entirely new ones) & weld on a tube to attach the ducts too.

you still have to route the ducting and keep it away from the tires.

ok. thanks for the pic. it might be a while before i do it, but that will help a lot. those brakes just put off so much heat that i can get one maybe two hard brakes before the pads crystalize. those are with really good semi-metalic pads.

Dust the air into the center of the rotor, not just directly at the caliper ...or do both.
Ducting to the rotor will give the best results as the rotor acts as an air pump, it pulls air in the center and as the air moves along the vanes radial speed increases, pressure goes down and this gives the pumping effect. Forcing air into the center greatly increases this effect and allows you to run a cooler rotor. The rotor is the heat buffer during braking and when the pedal is let off it obviously cools down again, running a cooler average rotor temp will also help your calipers from heat soaking.

stephen do you have any pics of it set up on ur car? i'd love to see them. i'm not real sure how to route the ducting with out it rubbing the tires when they are turned.

Pull your front turn signals out & use the openings for cooling duct intakes.
Get a short LED strip to fit back in there up top to use as turn signals, only about 3/8" high, leaving the rest open for cooling air to come in.
