Calipers not releasing

Just a quick question.Last summer I replaced the front calipers and bled the brakes as the old ones were not releasing.I figured this was because the car sat for the winter and is only driven in the warmer months here in Iowa.Is it possible this is due the brake lines needing to be replaced or a possibly bad brake booster internal diaphragm?Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks,Jeff

If the car pulls left or right when you apply the brakes, you should consider the lines.

Re: Calipers not releasing

the old man speak truth . flex lines will fail internally and act as check valves . replace all 3 flex lines . also a good time to flush entire brake system . get rid of that coffee colored OLD NASTY fluid . it's bad stuff , full of moisture & debris . good luck .

also, that is one of the most common problems when your caliper won't retract. Or possibly the caliper pins are binding. Most likley the brake line though. -Russ

i just replaced a siezed caliper on the drivers side a few weeks ago on my project car and during the bleeding of the brakes the pedal was real hard to push when doing the driver side front.car also still pulled to the right during test drive.today i got around to replacing flex line.car brakes perfect now.

Re: Calipers not releasing

Thank you for this post. I think my problem is a line plugged enough to act like a check valve.

I could not press the piston back in with a c-clamp. So I pulled the caliper & popped out the piston with a small shot of air. I was then able to put the piston back by hand with the bleeder & brake line off.

Check Valve-- a valve that allows only one direction of flow.
For those that didn't know what a check valve was.

Re: Calipers not releasing

New rubber brake hose on the caliper that wouldn't release and my Z is on the road again. I will replace others when I have more time. Just needed something to drive while the wife drives my truck. Need to replace the motor in her Equinox.
