Metric fitting experience
In the last month I replaced my fuel pump. In the process of this, I had to drop the rear axle. I was also planning on replacing the flex brake line (rear drums) from the body to the axle while everything was apart. When trying to remove the hard line (front to back) from the flex line, I shredded the hard line because it was seized inside the fitting.
I didn't find anything helpful on the brake board, so I went out to find a solution for myself. What I ended up with was a "master cylinder adaptor line" from Papco (H Paulin & Co). See http://www.hpaulin.com/Catalogue/Ste...Lines_2006.pdf page 5. None of the local stores stocked this part, which is why I had so much trouble. I had to have it ordered in special. I used part P913-016, which is an 12mm-1.0 bubble flare to 7/16"-24 inverted flare. The 12mm bubble fits the replacement flex line. Then I flared the existing piece of hard line with a standard inverted flare. I used a cheap $30 flare kit meant for 1/4" line. However, the Camaro used 6mm line, which is just under 1/4". So I filed down the faces of the flare tool just slightly to make it grip better.
Then I used a 7/16" to 7/16" union to join the 2 pieces. Don't forget to the put the fitting on the existing hard line before flaring (this is what I did). Hope this info helps out someone else out there with brake line troubles.
